expect the club moving had a big effect on several pubs in the area, no more so than the derby and the cliff. but at the same time the harbour view always seems to do ok.

but other pubs would have benefitted by it,

It's nowt to do with that..It's because the owner, who runs many other businesses, has went bust...I'm sure the Queen Vic will open under another ownership in due course.

Talking of pubs, is the gluepot bar at the Roker hotel still open?

The Boilermakers was without doubt the best workingmens club ever, Friday nights - rock bands, John Miles, Brass Alley and heaps more, Saturday strippers before the match then Sunday dinner time strippers and a band again - the perfect weekend, I was devastated when it closed down, now its owned by the university and I believe its some sort of club for the parasites ( students ) what a waste.

Shame about the Vic. I remember it as the CIU workmans club well, when I was a 13/14 year old. Always a good crack and cheap beer (well coke for me in them days Lol).

The Barbary Coast (formerly the Boilermakers) was the favourite pre-match haunt for me and my mates in the 80's. It was a fantastic atmosphere and had some cracking comedians and bands on before the match and of course some cracking Jack the Rippers.

Pie, pint, comedian, live band and some snatch.

****in hell, those were the days.

That is a shame, The Vic is one of our regular watering holes. It always seems busy but then again we only really go there on match days. They do do an awesome roast I agree on that.

**** me cest. I thought everyone had forgotten the The Barbary Coast.
Spent many a good night there. Fit (easy) birds, Tramp and Swank (hilarious). That bird who sung "Move closer". Sang it five times as I recall. Not much of a back catalog I suppose.

Beer-dance-beer-fight-beer-shag = The Barbary Coast. Happy days.

There wasnt a better pre-match Saturday afternoon to spent anywhere in the NE mate.

12 o clock arrival in there and 8 pints later into Roker Park. It helped the football look better anyway.

Oh to be in my 20's again. 8 pints now and I need 2 days rest. Lol

Nah , had a good boozer in Newcastle, 900 ish meters from Sydish park, smoking ban came in, I went out, lost about £30,000. so no surprise there then. strange how I can smoke in Holland , Germany , France and Spain. but EEC, labour government have ****ed us up big style. and these people who passed the ruling, never asked the people who used pubs. DEMOCRACY, WORKING AT ITS BEST,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,NAH. A great British institution ruined by Labour.

Am I bitter ****, yes I am.

Not on same side of the water

But the fella who has the Albion in Ryhope has recently took over the Legion.

Plans to turn it into a sports bar apparently. Might be a canny place for a pint he did a good job in the albion. They are hosting a talk in from Bally next month.
