You are in the right area - it is to do with ITFC & WFC.
Actually, your answer is so clever - and correct, I'll give it to you.
My answer was that only Jock Carter ever actually played for Watford, although all of them were on WFC's books at some time (before WW2) which was a bit complicated. So , anyway, well done -over to you.

Cheers Fez. just got together a text about culinary habits in European countries - see how many countries you can find out or know.

In November I sampled a meal of Rabbit with prunes cooked in Beer sauce, a well known recipe in a country which, despite this has the highest rate of vegetarians in Europe (this is country (A). Actually the number one consumers of both rabbit meat and beer are in country (B). There they consume 3 times more rabbit than in the next highest country (C) which compensates by being the biggest chicken eaters in Europe - in fact (C) consumes more meat than in any other European country (discounting fish and seafood which they also consume readily - thus country (C) is the worst country in Europe to be vegetarian. Country (D) consumes the most pork per head of population. Beef is most eaten in country (E). Goat and Lamb meat are eaten the most in (F). The countries which eat the most fish (per head ) are (G) and (H) and the country which eats the least fish is (I). Being truly miffed about not being mentioned so far country (J) consumes the most wine per head.

Not giving any big clues away yet - guesswork is needed. Well ok. one - the meal ordered was at the t'Klokhuys in Corduwanierstraat ! Coincidentally in the city which has the largest number of vegetarian restaurants per head of population Worldwide (t'Klokhuys isn't one of them) - also has a famous altarpiece. So 'A' should be a giveaway. The real biggest eaters of rabbits (B) and boozers on beer are also massive mushroom gatherers (and eaters) - landlocked and not a neighbour of 'A'.

The dish is found in Belgium. It is a French variation of one made with wine rather than beer.
The largest consumers of rabbit and beer are China. If Europe only then Czech Republic?
The largest consumers of chicken, probably the UK
Goat and lamb meat, possibly Greece?
Wine drinking. France or Portugal.

Still thinking about this.
 
Further clues - 'B' has a very big castle.
'C' the biggest chicken eaters, (and meat in general - consuming 99 kilos per head per year (the UK is 77) ars also big eaters of seafood and pork which they often stuff into very tasty sausages. They don't eat so many cows and have other uses for the males.
'D' Europe's biggest eaters of pork also often eat carp at Christmas <doh>
'E' the biggest consumers of beef are, surprisingly more famous for pork products.
'F' (goat and lamb) is one of my favourite countries when it comes to cooking. After lamb they eat a lot of seafood.
The two biggest eaters of fish and seafood eat little else and the country eating the least borders 'B'.
The biggest guzzlers of wine don't have any really famous ones - but have a palatable green one.

You're getting there Frenchie - I ate this in Ghent - Belgium has the highest percentage of vegetarians in Europe. The question does relate only to Europe and so the Czech Republic is correct for 'B'. Goat and Lamb is indeed Greece. The UK is wrong for chicken. It is indeed France or Portugal for wine but which ? Only a few to go.

Seeing as there is a reported slump in sales here, I guess Portugal.
