Whoops - forgot about this.

The match in question was played in Scotland - and I just realised that there were three records set, not two. One was beaten rather contentiously, as mentioned by ofh, and another which I witnessed being equalled in Australia 22 years ago.

I missed the point- I thought we were looking for a genuine 149-0. In fact the Scottish FA cup game Arbroath vs Bon Accord shouldn't have been played as Bon Accord were drawn as the home team. Had the tie not been switched, the result might have been different (haha)

Yes - the record for the most goals in one match by one player. I was there for the second, but not the first. :)

The other record was for the most number of disallowed goals in a match - thought to be 7. A newspaper report on the game quoted the referee as saying "I lost count after 4". Am pretty sure he's still refereeing today and goes by the name Willie Collum - aka Mr Rangers. ;)

To be honest I found it embarrassing - the American Samoa team should never have been allowed to play - they were mostly all teenagers, some who really looked like they had never played before and had already lost two qualifying games 22-0 and 8-0 to other island nations. The fact that less than 3000 turned up to watch spoke volumes...

Never has the town of poughkeepsie been so searched after <laugh> I now know that it had something to do with whaling, that 39.8% of its inhabitants are non hispanic white and that a Hendrick Jans van Ooosteron was one of its founders !! Other than that I guess it has something to do with those nasty chess computers that have the impertinence to sometimes beat us <doh> Oh, it's also famous for Smith Brothers Menthol cough drops.
