Cheers BB. A silly one - very silly ! In the UK and the USA it is Smith, in Germany it is Müller, in Ireland Murphy, in Russia it is Ivanova - in the Netherlands it is de Jong. What is the most common surname Worldwide ?

Cheers yorkie;

The rise of text messaging has threatened the extinction of what in places as diverse as Kuşköy in Northern Turkey, the Canary Islands, Oaxaca in Mexico, the Himalayas and the Greek island of Evia?

I think this is a kind of use of language similar to that of birds - like a whistled version of the language used for communication over long distances. This is used between shepherds in some places.

That's it cologne - the places mentioned all have 'whistling' languages which are dying out as the older people die off - the younger ones prefer to use text messaging rather than learn/continue with the whistling.

Over to you.
