I think this is a kind of use of language similar to that of birds - like a whistled version of the language used for communication over long distances. This is used between shepherds in some places.
That's it cologne - the places mentioned all have 'whistling' languages which are dying out as the older people die off - the younger ones prefer to use text messaging rather than learn/continue with the whistling. Over to you.
