That's the one...
Indian scientists suspect that Everest may have shrunk by at least a metre after the earthquake, and are asking Nepal's permission to check. A Chinese team measured it in 2005 and found it had shrunk from 8848 to 8844 metres - but hadn't asked permission to carry out the check, so Nepal refuse to recognise the findings.

It must be H2G2 - Douglas Adams was a well-known environmental activist, but from what I know, it had more to do with animals such as gorillas and rhinos.
