Okay, I'll answer, but I have no question.

this is Canadian film director Denis Villeneuve, no idea if he's related to F1 driver, Jacques. His name, I believe, translates to "Newtown" (? my French is not really up to it, but certain words I remember).
He has been given "license" to direct the new James Bond reboot, and he's a lifelong fan of the Bond films.
Personally, with Sicario, Bladerunner 2049, and one of my personal top ten favourite films of all time (big call, this) Arrival*, under his belt, I think he's an excellent choice.

Sorry, I'm a bit under the weather to set a question... I started typing this about 40 minutes ago!

* Jeremy Renner and Amy Adams play linguistics experts charged by Forest Whittaker with communicating with alien "arrivals". A beautiful sci-fi film a cut above the usual crash, bang, wallop, that is released these days.

Which are the two odd films out in that list and why, and which film is missing from the list, and why?

There are nine films on the "list", and one missing from the question.
There are only 10 films (ever) that fit the criteria, only two are mentioned, one is missing. Yes, the other seven in the question are relevant to answering the question.

No, not Godfather 2 nor the individual films of the trilogy. There is a family connection between the film trilogy with one of the 10 films mentioned.
There is also a different family connection connection between one of the two "odd films out" and the Award winner for the relevant category for that year.

To re-cap, with additional direction:
This is absolutely to do with Academy Awards, but not Best Picture.
There are only ten "films", ever, to have been nominated that meet the criteria.
Of those ten, three have won. Only two failed to win any Oscars at all.
Of those three winners, none has won twice - one won nearly two decades after the first nomination.
One winner beat an (ex) spouse to the prize, and winning Best Picture, the first of two of the ten to do so.
One winner has an uncle who won in this category for The Godfather... and acted in Part III.
The reason that The Godfather films did not form part of the original question is because they did not win this category award in the year of the ten that were nominated.
