The last team to win a major league title in their first season subsequent to gaining promotion to the top league.- Nottm Forest were the last to achieve this in England - but in the rest of Europe ??

Sorry it took so long to reply Andy I've been without reliable internet for a couple of days. It was indeed Kaiserslautern - the last newly promoted team to win a major league in Europe. they won the Bundesliga in 1998/1999. Subsequently they started a slide down to the 3rd tier of German football and are now on the way back up again. Over to you.

    No problem. Thanks, cologne. :)

The Boston Irish Gang Wars was a long-running mafia feud in the 1960s. It allegedly started when one gangster grabbed the bum of another fringe gangster’s girlfriend. The fringe gangster had an interesting connection with Bugsy Siegel - what was it?

This is Alex Rocco who fled the gang war and became an actor - famously playing Moe Greene in the Godfather - whom Mario Puzzo based on the aforementioned Bugsy Siegel. You couldn't make it up!

Very good! Yes. I watched him ‘The Friends of Eddie Coyle’ the other day. Super film. Bob Mitchum was no slouch.

    Over to you.

Robert Mitchum... Proper film star. One of the few Americans that could play the hero and the bad guy - his turns in Night of the Hunter and Cape Fear are peerless.

Tomorrow. I'll think of something tomorrow.

    Quickie:

What stood for all but 41 years and took less than a minute to break?

No. Well, in a manner of speaking perhaps... But not in "Land Speed Record" terms, no.

This happened indoors. Outdoors is still standing and probably won't be broken...

So much for a "quickie"... though that's what it was: quick. Very quick. Quickest in 41 years. By a distance.

Quickest woman... no suggestion of being drug fuelled this time - not that the old records were ever proven thus, just long suspected!

Femke Bol has just smashed the oldest world record in track and field. 400m indoors in 49.26 seconds.

That's the one. The outdoor record may well stand for a while yet.
