Apparently there is statistical evidence to suggest that if the American League champion wins the World Series, the Republican candidate will will - and if a National League champion wins it, the Democrat candidate will win. This year's World Series winner was LA Dodgers - the National League champion.
mmm.... interesting....

But I am thinking of something from way back.... and it is a n umber

Not sure I deserve it, but...

Sticking with the numbered shirt theme, in the days when shirts were numbered 1-11, from defence through to attach, #1 was the traditional goalkeeper number. On one famous occasion a particular goalkeeper was given #3 - who, when and why?

This depends on the country BB - even during the days when numbers were allocated 1-11 according to position the Argentine national team numbered players alphabetically and a couple of their goalkeepers have worn the number 3.

Was this the game involving Steve Palmer playing in goal briefly and Alec Chamberlain starting with the number 3? 1997/8 season v Bournemouth. Palmer only needed to play in the No.1 and N0. 9 to have had every number on his back. This was devised to cover the No.1 and he wore the No. 9 in the final game of the season.

I'm not sure that is correct - Argentina started numbering their national team squad alphabetically in 1974 - and their goalkeepers were given the numbers 1, 12 and 21. Only later were different numbers allocated.

Numbering shirts 1-11 started in 1908 in Australia and spread around the world at club level until the 1990s, when squad numbering became the norm. About half way between those two dates, 1-11 shirt numbering for starting line-ups was introduced at international level, and continued until squad numbering took over later.

The instance I'm thinking of happened at international level, before squad numbering became the norm - which should narrow it down a bit....

Thank you ..I had to get my google brain into gear!!!

here we go....
What ex player is managinG a Welsh club team....?
Is that Llanfairpwll-gwyngyllgogerychwyrndrob-wllllantysiliogogogoch Rovers? :)
You may have to elaborate on 'ex-player' - I'd imagine that the majority of clubs would be managed by someone who has played the game.

Having said that, I watched the final of the 2018/19 Scottish Challenge Cup in Inverness, when Ross County beat Welsh club Connah's Quay Nomads. I was surpised to find that the Nomads were managed by former Man City captain Andy Morrison - is that the one?
