Dancing all around the answer. "Dancing" is not a clue, btw. Theme is not the answer either as all of the artists songs both linked and not linked follow the theme....

All of the linked artists and the specific songs and lyrics are original... all charted for the respective artists... the theme is followed through in the clues.... which are specific songs...

Frenchie is red, red, hot but not given the answer...

Word is Schroedinger's answer... it is both correct (e.g. Beatles, Quo, SMV) and incorrect (Led Zep, Prince, Gene Kelly) :emoticon-0126-nerd:

Could it be whatever? Going by the Quo song only as I know little about some of those bands.

There is a song called softer ride on the Hello album, and the Beatles had a ticket to ride. Could ride be the word?

The answer is Rain. Different artists, different songs, same title.

Afraid I have only just come back in so didn't continue my search. I will set another one. Which King ruled for only twenty minutes?

I vaguely remember that one of those long line of Louis 's abdicated after 20 minutes in the early 19th Century - but I can't remember which number he had.

Close enough. Louis Antoine of France, Duke of Angoulême was Louis XIX. His father's abdication was in 1830, so he was King for 20 minutes before he to abdicated.

Cheers Frenchie. Time for an easy one. Today I got out a piece of chalk and drew a thickish line around the barks of 4 apple trees and 2 pear trees. Why did I do it exactly ?

Not sure that a chalk line would stop bugs climbing up your trees, so maybe you want to check over a period how much they have grown.
