Arsenal finished below several other sides that weren't promoted.
There's literally not an argument that they were promoted on playing merit.
Even the ostrich won't touch that one.

That makes no sense. You hadn't done those things at the time, so you can't possibly have earned it.
You're also disagreeing with your own club now, to add to the list:

You said that we weren't there on 'playing merit' though, we are as we have won it 13 times. Given that fact, it stands to reason that we would have won the 2nd div at least once and been promoted, thereby we have earned our place in the top flight <ok>

Also since we have been in the top flight, we have never been relegated from it, again confirming our place in it on 'playing merit'
