Why? The teams will just fill the schedule with pre, mid and post-season friendlies, instead.
You may well be right. However I think there are too many PL fixtures, despite the size of squads.
But I wasn't advocating the decrease in isolation. There would have to be other measures alongside, including a longer Xmas/NY break and limiting transfer windows to non-playing periods.

They tried that and the European clubs agreed that it was a good idea, then refused to match it, as it gave them an advantage.
The Christmas break would end up being a trip to Asia/America to earn more cash, too.
There will not be less fixtures. We just have a choice of what they might be.

The EFL Trophy has been ruined by a previous attempt at this ****.
It needs to go back to it's previous format, as it's helping nobody at the moment.
You've only named three cups, though. I wouldn't count that one, either.
There's also the FA Trophy, which I forgot the name of

And that's the other thing, apart from the FA Cup the other cups change names so often it's worth asking if Shaun Bailey has had another of his bright ideas

1. If premier league clubs can spend over £1 billion in this years transfer window, over a hundred million on agents fees and well over a billion on wages to players EVERY YEAR then they can give £250m to clubs below them to ensure football survives...with no strings attached.

2. The idea that dropping 2 teams will improve football is bollocks. It'll just make more time for friendlies in far flung places.

3. Ending the Community Shield which raises millions for charities is plainly stupid and greedy...they simply want to play the fixture abroad snd use it to make a bucket load of money.

4. Killing the league cup will kill clubs and fans chances to see their team pull a "big" club and earn a big pay day.
If clubs don't like it then put out a B team or don't ****ing enter it.

5. Making the "big" 6 plus West Ham, Southampton and Everton have more say is outrageous...especially when you consider that Newcastle and Villa have been in the premier league more years than west ham and Southampton!

Also why should we or Arsenal have more say than Leicester who finished above us twice in the past 4 years?

6. Ricky Parry, the chief Exec of the football league has praised Liverpool and Uniteds plan and supports it...he is also:

A) a liverpool fan
B) an ex chief exec of Liverpool

No conflict of interest there then ffs.

The league cup is a waste of space, always has been. It's just the product of the hatred between the Football League and the FA.
They could keep it and confine it to the Football League exclude the PL and include the minor leagues. Or restrict it in the PL to under 23 teams.

Don't want to see more power given to the powerful

We will take that as a "for" . <ok>

Except the obvious counterpoint to that is Season Killer Cup matches are midweek and it's rare that there's cameras there, so not only are they far less likely to get TV money (or the annual free advertising for Murdoch's Hate Comic on their kit) that an FA Cup draw would, and they're not even necessarily that much of a draw -for example Bristol Rovers' SKC match with Brighton last season saw drew 6500 fans, yet the previous week their league match with Oxford drew 7500 and plenty of league matches matched or bettered that

Also, I just found out I went to school with Bristol Rovers' manager. And when I knew him he was a right little twat...

If the top sides hate the League Cup so much, then they might want to win it a little less often.
City have won it 5 of the last 7 times and the most frequent winners are Liverpool, City, Villa, Utd, Chelsea and us.

If they really do want to change it though, then either eliminate the teams that qualify for Europe or the Premier League entirely.
Maybe make it a regional thing in early rounds to ease travel a bit, too.

The whining on the League Cup is basically coming from clubs involved in UEFA tournaments.
To which my reply is :

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1981–82_Tottenham_Hotspur_F.C._season

In which Spurs played the maximum possible number of games for a
league club in a season, minus one (a UEFA final) .

Tis UEFA who have extended the old England season by two games max
for current EL participants (no change in max games for CL participants) , not the PL.

The PL could certainly do more to help clubs in European competitions as regards scheduling though, something which is not uncommon IIRC in other top leagues in Europe.

Not interested in who wins it, having this cup devalues the FA Cup which has some history to it. It's a Mickey Mouse cup whether Spurs win it or not. More is often not better just more and in this case just a nuisance.

What devalues the FA Cup is :

1. Having a sponsor on its name
2. Matches not being played only on saturday afternoons
3. Having SFs played at Wembley (except for very specific scenarios)

The same could be said for all league matches but times have changed and tv rules the roost. Plus shirts covered in advertising, we/I have to put up with all of that and the compensation is being able to watch all the games and the amazing stadiums. The game has moved on but despite all of that The League Cup is still a nuisance IMO.
