I thought that , he saw things he hadn't seen before because it wasn't polo!Ehab - an expert at analysing training sessions.
It's a ****ing shame he didn't use his power of analysing the training sessions in July and August and think - holy ****, we don't have enough players
Yep. Sure I read Sunderland wage bill is 70% of income. If they don't have clauses they're in big trouble. For every other ****ing stupid decision ever made by him and Pappa, you have to hold your hand up and say the relegation clauses into every contract is brilliant business.
And don't say it's obvious and every club of our ilk has them, cos they don't.

Sunderland have had relegation clauses since 2009 - let's not give the Allams credit for something that's been around for years

I didn't say they invented it. And does every single one of their players have it? I really can't imagine Defoe would sign a deal that cuts his wages in half. And even if they did, he'd still earn more than any of our players earned this season.
Lucky for them that he'll be off.
Problem is, for every good thing like this, there's a daft one. Many of our best players are in their final year and will leave on the cheap as a consequence, we seem to be terrible at agreeing nee deals. Swings and roundabouts.

Defoe's effectively gone already, his contact allowed him to walk away as soon as they were relegated.
That's the way they do it though, I'm easy about it. The liabilities for a club our size is too great a risk, if we handed out four of five year deals. Risk of injury etc.Problem is, for every good thing like this, there's a daft one. Yeah I know, that's a clause in his favour. I doubt he'd have signed a contract with a 50% cut in the club's favour.

It's irrelevant what the wage cut was, if you can leave on a free, you hold all the cards.
