It shouldn't be allowed, not because of corruption but because of idiots like that one insinuating refs are bent.
Refs have got to be seen as whiter than white. When a football owner sponsors the body that trains and selects them, it doesn't look great. May be there are safeguards in place. I've never heard of anyone complaining about Air Asia or Tune's involvement
If there is contact the player does have the right to go down.
If he's fouled, but he stays standing then he won't get the benefit he deserves.
I remember a few years ago. Colin had a right go at Akinbiyi for not going down in the last minute, he ran on the pitch at the end of the game and gave him loads of abuse. "Why didn't you go down you ****ing idiot" was the gist of it.
It's not cheating.
Its diving and trying to con the ref, football is a contact sport and its sad anyone condones this.

I'd like to see divers get Red. But then they better be using electronics to back up such game changing decisions. Diving / not Diving can be extremely difficult for Refs to get right, as yesterday's very good, but disputed decision showed.
Of course it is. Why do you think it's now 'simulation' rather than diving? Doing a swan dive when you don't get enough contact to send a toddler over is cheating. If it's a foul then it's the referee's decision to give it- the player doesn't have any "right" to make it look a clearer foul than it was/was not.
As for the first one, Traore couldn't have made Johnson go down like that if he had a knuckle duster. For both claims, the player was on the way down long before any meagre contact.
Very well made point. If someone puts their leg out and you see it there and specificly go into it and start buckling before you touch it, which is what happened yesterday, then you deserve a card in my opinion. The thing is, it is a physical game and that side of it will disappear if you feel that players have a right to go down when they could have stayed up. Like Watford says, a foul should be down to the referee to spot. It happens all the time where a player doesn't go down but still gets a free kick because the opposing player put unnecessary and unreasonable pressure on him or slightly tripped him, setting the player back. The player doesn't need to go down.
I personally thought the Barton one was a pen. but lets face it they were rolling around like a bunch of fannies for most of the game and this influenced the refs decision.

If someone sticks their leg out and gets nowhere near the ball (see Barton and Traore) and you have no chance of getting the ball because of the obstruction (see Barton and Traore) then you have the right to 'go down' and accept the foul.

Well, despite the ludicrous highlights, we were the far better side for the vast majority of the game, so it wasn't by the skin of our teeth at all.
For the first one, Johnson knows he's not getting any further and just falls over. For the second, he is as good as past Barton and chooses to fall over rather than get a shot or cross away. Both good decisions, genuinely, especially given the ref erred on the side of letting the game flow throughout. Dave Jones can moan all he likes.
Barton moved his leg out of the way before the player got there, that's why he dived over fresh air.

Because when you extend that 'right' to other sorts of contact such as we've seen with Ashley Young's swan dives it becomes ridiculous.
Hmm... if someone is fouled they are entitled to appeal for the penalty. Neither of those players were. If the first guy had shown a bit more commitment to get away from the defender he probably would have been fouled, and the second guy just dived.

What if there's no contact, but Hawkeye shows a hot spot where the players' nylon shorts causes static as they pass each other? Would that be a penalty?
