Ron admits we tried to sign him last season, so he obviously rates him...just not at the price United paid. I note a Dutch scout said that the problem was Depay's character....said he couldn't go lower than 0/10 or he would have. Apparently swears at team mates and fans alike, but has improved during the last season.

Showing Anfield a lot on Sky this morning because of the Firmino signing, so there are lots of shots of a strange poster. Under the banner...'Hold Nothing Back' there is a photo of 5 depressed looking players on a bench. Not sure what they are trying to say, but it hardly looks inspiring.

That's just the conversion, the actual build was about 700m. What was St Mary's, maybe 50 million.

Nice - basically a billion pound stadium. Talk about prising open an oyster and finding a baked bean in place of a pearl.
(That's an idiom of my own making, by the way.)

I read a few articles this morning quoting Ron about Depay; I hope that doesn't come back to bite us/him in the bum!

Not read that one, but the ones I read in the paper at the weekend has Ron admitting he had us bid for him last summer, and gave up once Man U got involved, so he's holding his hands up there.

And didn't the cost of building the St Mary's help lead to our relegation?
WHU are being given a massive boost, in keeping their place in the Premier League, as they don't have to spend money on funding the stadium, instead of players.

Having SMS made us a better deal for Markus...infrastructure in place, Nicola could concentrate on success on the pitch. Not such value if we were still at the Dell.

To be totally honest I don't think Saints would exist anymore in the same form if St Mary's hadn't been there [damn it, Lowe I have to think better of you for that]. If we had been in League One but still been playing at The Dell then Nicola wouldn't have drawn Markus's attention to us, in my opinion. For all St Mary's faults, and there are several, it was a tasty carrot.

Good old Rupert.

*runs away*
Nope, fair play. He has to take a bit of credit. He brought in no investment ever, but he got St Mary's made for £32M [actually, I think it was Andrew Cowen who oversaw it all, but that's just detail] and made Saints a bigger presence overnight. Previous boards, especially in the Guy Askham era who personally sucked at the club's finances, had done very little.
