Poor decision. Ref has been crap all afternoon. Linesman can't even do his own job properly and thinks he can get involved. Potentially ruined this game.

I repeat. he kicked out. The referee has little choice but to issue a red card.

Mirallas pushed Tomkins in the chest yesterday, so that is violent conduct, did he get sent off? No.

Mason put his head into Benteke against Spurs, to which he reacted, did he get sent off? No.

Jack Wilshere put his head into Fellaini's chest yesterday whilst trying to act the hardman, did he get sent off? No.

Lack of consistency with this 'violent conduct' nonsense. It's a contact sport, and although Gaston 'flicked' his leg at Vertonghen, he was stood on initially, which went unpunished.

Your reasoning is flawed. Someone shouldn't get sent off because previous incidents went unpunished or unnoticed? What utter bollocks. Every single incident isn't going to be seen or dealt with correctly. You seem to think referees should get every single decision right. Every week when I referee I get shouted at and moaned at for not giving something or giving a goal kick instead of a corner and I'm sick of the attitude of people that referee's don't have the right to miss things or have bad games. And a shove in the chest isn't violent conduct.

I do think refs should take into account how aggressive / dangerous a particular act is. Beckham's was nothing in the scheme of violent acts and did no harm at all. This one was even softer. Far worse things get nothing, or a yellow. For example, kicking a player in the ankle as he goes past to break up play is a kick, not a bad tackle, but is almost always given as a yellow. Rooney getting red for kicking a thigh really just highlights the weird workings of our rule system. A kick is a kick.

By this ruling, of course, my Sunday career would have seen a record haul of reds...
