I do. We have stood by him & given him full support in a time that he has needed it. He does not need to commit another four years to us if he doesn't want to, but I would like to know what his intentions are. I don't want to know what his agent thinks, I don't care about Poch's love for him, I want to know what Jay wants.

If he refuses to sign a new deal then I would imagine he would be gone before the end of his contract anyway, and most likely in Jan/this summer. So it is essentially demanding a transfer as it is very unlikely Saints will just let a valuable asset go for free in 18 months time

As a practical matter, yes. As a moral matter it's different. He is only obligated to play for the term of his contract. He is not obligated to sign a new contract. So he's not breaking any bargains here.

Obviously his expiring deal gives him a certain amount of leverage, but that's just business. He can get what he wants without making a stink, but that's only because he handled his business properly. He has that leverage because he only committed for four years. When the club signed him, they knew that at a maximum they could only count on him for four years, and it might be smarter to sell him after three. And Saints decided it was worth it knowing the terms.

It's not like Lallana who just signed a new contract and then refused to play. Rodriguez, if he refuses to sign and then gets sold never misled the Saints as to his intentions or level of commitment-- unlike Lallana and Lovren.

I don't think we as fans have the right to know what his intentions are. And I don't think the club would necessarily be happy about it either. It's not exactly doing Saints any favors if he publicly says he plans to leave.

He should probably tell Saints what he plans to do or what his current thoughts are, but that should be private. And really, if the club wants to know if he will re-sign and for how long and how much, all they have to do is offer him a contract.

Which they did.

Phew...read that thread backwards (which I often do)....thought (with talk of MP) that Koeman had said he was leaving...then thought JRod was definitely going (not quite such bad news). Finally realised that nothing had happened....as you were, Fran.
