I agree Al, Vertonghen left his foot and should have been delay with accordingly. BUT GASTON THEN KICKED OUT! That's a red card. So your angst is that it was Spurs benefiting? Fair enough, but it is clear something clouded your judgement, unless you don't think Gaston kicked out, in which case you have chosen not to see that. My point to you in each if my posts is that it is a clear red card because a player can't kick out in a big way or a little way.
What annoyed me was that not once during the commentary did they point a finger at the spuds defender. He should have been punished too.
In all of this discussion, the lino deserves a pat on the back for having the balls to raise his flag; most of them are too Lilly livered to do anything.
Kick out, a coming together, still looks nothing like a red to me. Then add to that Jacks little indiscretion yesterday & many other things in the Everton/WestHam match, it just feels like a piss take.

On the Gaston thing, Vertonghen gives him a crafty thigh in the balls which is what causes his reaction.
Well it is. Just because he didn't kick him hard it doesn't mean it's not violent conduct. It is the ACTION of kicking out and NOT the amount of contact that results in a red card.
Vertonghen had hold of his foot as well, which also contributed. I am not arguing against the red, just that Vertonghen should have had a yellow as well. And how in God's name did Livermore stay on the pitch?

He kicked out, of course he did. I have a pair of eyes, and although age isn't on my side and I wear glasses, I can see Gaston's leg made contact with Vertonghen. Still, I don't think it was enough to be a red card, and if you put it in context, where he was reacting to Vertonghen, then I think you just say yellow and be done with it.

Jedinak's red a couple weeks back was kicking out, Gaston's was more of a tangle. Never a red card, only a ref with a stick up his arse would give that.

I think most refs are poor but That decision was correct. They tangled after Gaston kicked out. If you don't think Gaston kicked out then you must have blinked. Spuds defender made a meal of it, but definitely a stupid reaction from Gaston.
