The rumour is he wants to invest again if we go up. Which to me seems a bit **** because if we don't make it this season, we could do with the money to strengthen in what will be a hell of a tougher division next year.

But also, it'll depend on the finances with regards to FFP/PSR/whatever it's called these days. I was working under the assumption that us not spending on transfer fees for a year might have given us a bit of breathing room, but the wages have probably nullified that.
There's been talk since last summer that we would look to sell someone this summer to fund the continuing squad spending for the next year or two. That seems to be part of the model.

Trouble is having someone valuable enough to sell. KLP, Greaves and to a lesser extent Philogene were obvious PL targets but I'm not sure we have anyone of the right profile now. Hughes is always touted but is he actually good enough as a defender right now? I'm not convinced he is. Loads of potential, obvious talent yes, but he isn't defensively reliable enough at Championship level yet so I can't see how a PL club decides to spend big money on him. Belloumi is arguably the best shout because his talent is so obvious every time he plays, but he doesn't have much of a record yet because of his injuries.

I do think Hughes is currently more ready for the PL than KLP was when he went to Brentford. He did take a while to find his feet but the potential in both is clear.

I think Hughes would get found out very quickly in the PL, he's too slow.

One player Acun really likes is Fener's LB Archie Brown. Used to be at Derby. He's had a great season too.

Probably likely to see us go for Vaclav Cerny too. Merih Demiral is out of contract in Saudi Arabia, if he takes the world's biggest paycut we'd probably have him here. Some of the more talented ones like Baris Alper Yilmaz and Kenan Yildiz are obviously not coming, but I'd be confident we could get the likes of Yuksek, Ozan Kabak and Mert Mulder in.
Cerny is outstanding. absolutely baffling how Rangers never tried to sign him. One trick pony, but still manages to be amazing.

Pandur is still highly rated and will have offers this Summer, I'd guess at least double what we paid for him. Hughes you're spot on with, but the fact he's English/homegrown means clubs will take a chance, even if it means loaning him out for a year. Slater is probably another this season that's proved he can be consistent at Championship level, it's not beyond the realms of impossibility that a lower PL club might take a chance. Again, English and a decent age. Belloumi definitely could do it in the PL or a top European league but he would need to prove he can stay fit for a season. If he has a strong end to the season, I'd expect offers. Rangers or Celtic go in for McBurnie, or even an MLS team with a big wage offer and he might be tempted.

Of course, whether or not we accept any of these is down to how much we need to sell and how well we can replace them. Ideally, we'd lose no more than two of them and were able to bring in better, but it's a risk.

I would like to keep Hughes for at least one more season but I can see someone like Palace signing him.

As is absolutely, but he’s got the physicality and read of the game for his age - which I don’t think KLP quite had yet when he moved on.

I could see him going to a lower mid table club, not quite being picked but ultimately coming good in a few years.

Rangers man McBurnie,I very much doubt he'd pull a Celtic shirt on.
