Not quite sure how this helps the "lower leauges". The 250 million bail out is basically a short term sweetner, "if you okay this we'll give you this drop in the ocean", because that's what it is to the eventual income. Also seen that the premier league clubs want to rights to sell 8 of their own live games abroad on their own media platforms and keep the revenue as at the moment, the games are sold as a package and the money shared out. They are trying to use Covid to their advantage to struggling clubs and shame on them. The sooner the "big boys" f##k off and make a "super league" the better. That's what they want to do anyway.
Sadly the EFL are run by a guy who used to be chairman of Liverpool and as such will still make his decisions on what could be best for his beloved LFC...... The money they are talking about as a sweetener for the smaller clubs is absolute chicken feed, but if you were chairman of Rochdale, Crewe Port Vale etc. this could be lifeline..not so for Sunderland
Are any of us really surprised that the Premiership are doing nothing more than looking after their own interests, chucking the leftovers to the starving EFL and expecting us all to be grateful. as for the EFL chairman, has he really done anything to keep clubs afloat, just ask the Bury and Macclesfield fans.
I think you have the nub of it. The 'top six want to play in a European champions league (hence reduce the number of domestic league and cup games) and get lots of money, they are not bothered by the also rans in the PL. The money they promise for the lower leagues are just a sop to help get their power grab over the line. In a couple of years the tap will be turned off!
No. That has to be prevented from happening. If the highest level of the game in this country becomes detached from the rest of the league system, it makes everything else irrelevant.
I would get talksport on, Rick Parry (who is in favour for the reform) is on talking to Simon Jordan soon, Natalie has just said its going to be 'explosive!'
Pleased I dont really give much of a **** anymore. I'd sooner the smaller clubs fall on their sword. The big 6 should be voted out.
Parry was on Breakfast news on BBC, he's all for it, the two big clubs Manure and the bindippers have put this forward and Parry says the money fed down to the lower leagues will save the EFL now and in the longer term, he actually said it would keep League 1&2 high on the media's agenda which I thought was quite prophetic on a BBC programme as they almost totally ignore anything football wise below Championship level other than reporting the results on a Saturday. This has got to be stopped as has been said above.
Rick Parry and the EFL really need to get their heads out of the sand. What the hell is he doing spending his time negotiating a deal with Liverpool. It may be a good deal I suspect not But the main issue is its not going to happen any time soon and probably never He's pissing around with this when he should be looking at ways to help the 72 clubs he represents NOW. By the time anything comes of this he may not have many clubs to represent.
Love to see the other 14 clubs refuse to play the "big 6" as they're referred to. Basically send them a big **** you message. Do it on TV. Turn up and then walk back into the dressing room at kick off. Or field the U18's or U23's. See how the international broadcasters react to that.
Maybe it's time for EFL players to take a knee before matches and have "EFL Lives Matter" printed on the back of the shirts #****thebig6
Read in one of the papers online earlier today that Parry was involved in the Premier League when it started up and broke away from the Football League (as it was then) and now it looks like he's after another go
The idea of an all powerful big six stinks too. There was a big two in Scotland and look at what happened to Rangers, yes they're back there now but it's not a guarantee by any means.
The bloke needs the boot for this. Clubs on the verge of folding and he's pissing about with some pie in the sky deal that may or may not happen. Even if it does come off its way down the line once the Prem the FA and the government get involved. What's he doing for the clubs he represents NOW. nothing
This stinks to high heaven, Parry is still wearing his Liverpool hat and not doing what he's been paid really well for by the EFL as has been said. The 'little' clubs should vote him out of office as he's acting for himself and not his employer.
There's actually quite a bit about the proposed structure I either like or am not bothered about particularly BUT the quid pro quo of granting 9 clubs "special status" is unacceptable. The terms of this special status will be vital and it is extremely concerning that these terms are nowhere to be seen so it is not a leap of faith to suggest that they may include vetoing takeovers and enhanced voting rights so that 9 out of 18 will equate to a majority. This could see them vote on restricting promotions and relegation and also voting to end the 25% of income going to the EFL whenever they liked. Hopefully all of the clubs outside of the big 6 will think exactly the same and tell them where they can shove this!!
this will simply be 'the next step' towards the overall final plan, offer what appears to be a decent deal for the poor ('the poor' in this case, the EFL clubs who are going tobe struggling)...while the rich ('the rich', guess who) end up far better off, the premier league should never have happened as once any kind of 'elite' status is granted and the money starts to flow they always want more and more, this has feck all to do with 'fair' or even 'football' but owners making money, they want to be able to offer the best wages to grab the best players but also want the biggest rewards into their accounts while doing so and as in all walks of life someone, somewhere has to do without so they can get what they want.
there's too much money in the premier, players should be on £10 k a week max and a £10m transfer fee max, let sponser's pay them extra cash. when football started, players worked 5 days a week like Raich carter and had to find work when they finished playing and when you look at staff being paid off at clubs. Most likely the European league will be mentioned again. As far as i am concerned with the covid situation there should have been a block on transfers anyway until if and when it goes away.
