Summer has made me even more excited about Ibe.

He's about as good as Raheem was 12 months ago.

With Raheem the flaw was not being able to finish.

With Ibe the flaw is not being able to look up and find a teammate.

Raheem overcame his fatal flaw... I have optimism Ibe will overcome his.

Honestly, get some fullbacks in, get a proper, strong and able CM, and a ****ing striker. That's all we seriously need to compete. The 4-3-3 is infinitely weaker than the 4-4-2 diamond. It didn't work in BR's first 6 months in charge, why go back now? Next thing you know we'll be doing a 3-5-2 again and not scoring.

Need two forwards for a 442 diamond

As far as I can tell not much has changed since last season! Utd still have a crap midfield, and CB's and only score with crosses. Liverpool have absolutely shocking defence but don't have Suarez to balance that now which could be costly!! Of course this is all pre-season and will probably mean nothing once the season starts.

Night night fella's <smooch>

So: what we knew before the match.

Ming can't kick a ball.

These two FBs are pants. Vulnerable to crosses.

Gerrard switches off far too often in his defensive duties...his actual job now.

Our midfielders have to be cuter in the foul if we have empty space down the flanks.

We need a quality striker.

We started summer transfer season needing above all else a striker and two full backs.

League about to restart and we still need those three positions after spending over 100 million.

If that doesn't sum up Liverpool nothing will! Haha

What forwards? We really haven't got any. Sturridge aside, I don't trust anyone up front to lead the line for when Danny is inevitably out. They're great backup and subs and all, but seriously, this isn't going to work.

I didn't watch the game (will do later) but I agree with this. Sturridge is the only striker I trust to definately get us goals, and that isn't going to work with all the matches we'll have next season.

Quite simply we need a striker that is as good as Sturridge, so we can either rotate, play 2 up front, or give each other a push for competition.

Plus I'm certain by the end of the window we'll have 2 new full backs. The loanee guy (weird name so can't be asrsed to spell it) should be ours today, if he's not already.

Moreno I have a feeling will go to the wire, but I'm confident we'll get him - we're just playing hard ball at the moment and so are Seville. But something will budge. Moreno will make a huge difference down the left especially with Lazor in front of him.

Agreed. We are so poor in FB positions. Should have been first thing to sort out. Hopefully lovren will make a difference at CB and organise us better.
Have a feeling we will end up with Bony who is ok but think we all want that big name. But just don't see Shaqiri, reus coming. Would love to know the real story?

So...having been sensible/boring and gone to bed last night, is it worth watching the video or should I not bother?

Tbf, videoing it tends to be a good jinx <sorry>

Some truths in that result last night. We are a very weakened team without Suarez and obviously need a new striker. Utd are going to be right up there this season, thanks to Moyes they were crap, but they still have top players and will challenge.

Reading through this thread it sounds like it was a frustrating game where we started well and then fell apart a bit and United took their chances and were clinical?

It also sounds like Lambert had another mare, hope it's not another Adam scenario...

And it's clear as day (As BR has admitted) that we need another great striker, and I think we will buy one.

As for full backs, I'm so glad we have manquillo and moreno coming in. Johnson can leave. And as for kelly? What happened to him, do you think it's because he has always been a CB at heart? or is he just average?

We had no strikers last night. Yet we kept their defence on their toes for most of the game.

I agree that we do need 2 fullbacks - desperately.

So both goals are all Gerrard's fault. Sorry don't think so.

Ibe is NOT the answer. He's still a bambi and needs yet another season out on loan.

As for United - very little difference from last season. Think they'll be struggling again.

He's young enough for us to give him time, I think a loan would do him good at a club that wants him at centre back.
