Deflected goals are harsh to blame Skrtel on...would we all be happier if he stood and watched the shots go in the goal instead? Lets bring Agger back, he'll be nowhere close. Skrtel was at fault for goals last season as much as any of the other defenders. Harsh for him to be singled out repeatedly.As long as he isn't individually culpable for 10 goals a season like Skrtel is then he's already overtaken Skrtel

He does!
He backs off, backs off, till he gets to the edge of the area and then attempts to close the shot, but by then the forward is already taking the shot on goal. I'll see if I can find vids of it, he does it a lot and was responsible for about 3 goals last season because of it.
The overwhelming majority of defenders in the league back off. You pretty much have to these days because runners leap to the ground at the sight of a boot near them. Only Kompany is half decent at it in the PL and even he screws up some times, except he turns to his partner (whoever that is) and yells at them for not covering behind him when he fails (and yes, I do remember that happening because I laughed at the time).
Skrtel's two great myths: He can't pass the ball and he screws up more than most defenders.
Both completely incorrect.
