Judging by the last few tournaments, Portugal like to build from the back - it gives their midfield time to kick the other team into the stands.
Place looks empty on that video. What was the crowd? It will be interesting to see what crowd you get in Baltimore. In 2009 we sold the place out. 71203. Mind you we did a little better that year in Cali,81224.
I wouldn't say counter attacking football is a cheap tactic as it takes skill and good tactics to make it successful, plus some of the most beautiful goals come from counter attacking play. But that isn't us playing counter attack, that was us trying to control the game in their half which we was crap at as we didn't have a clue on how to create chances when teams are packed in their own half. Anyhow, both methods have their positives yet playing a high line is only going to work if our players learn how to create chances when teams are pushed back, and if our centre back pairing are in sync with each other and of course this will take time but I expect us to look foolish at times but that doesn't matter if the players learn the system and make it effective.
I think we've got some crossed wires here, The Boss. I was saying that playing only on the counter is cheap. MON's sides do it and it's always ****. I never said we were counter attacking in that game, I was just using the Sunderland game as an example of teams dropping off against us. For us to succesfully sit deep and counter like you want we'd have to play against teams who were willing to come out of their own half a bit more. In 09/10 we shocked teams a bit but the following year lower teams were looking to grind out a point against us as an achievment which took away our counter threat.
ha i new after i typed that, i had misunderstood what you said but was too lazy to edit it! yeah i agree crap teams like sunderland that have no ambition to attack and just defend for their lives and hope to get a goal on the counter, are employing cheap tactics. however i'm a huge fan of counter attacking football when its used by teams that have great attacking talent and pacey wingers as if you have a strong defence that can break up attacks and then hit teams on the counter, not only do you find space easy to use, you also destroy the oppositions confidence. This high line tactic is something i've never been a huge fan of, unless we're going to be experts at it!
Doesn't surprise me, it was a Wednesday night game with the Galaxy's two biggest players gone for the All star game and Tottenham aren't a "big" club and won't get the draw Real Madrid, Man Utd will. Also the Home Depot Center limits attendance on week games because the stadium is next/on a college campus. Not sure if they did for this game as it's summer.
Defoe has just left the tour, his cousin has passed away. Been a sad summer for the Defoe family hasn't it. I think we all wish him and his family all the best. From the Official Twitter (@SpursOfficial): "Jermain Defoe has returned home from our pre-season tour after the tragic news of the death of his cousin. We send our sincere condolences." EDIT: it's on the OS now as well http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/spurs/News/club-statement-jermain-defoe-26072012.page? Leaves us in a very interesting interesting situation regarding strikers for the rest of the tour now though. Guess we really get to see Kane in action properly now. Possible use of Bale as a striker in the works? Odder things have happened.......
I've just been told by a work colleague that the Galaxy are halfway through their season. I know next to nothing about American soccer so if that's the case then as he said the draw is a good result for us.
They are in the middle of their season, but they also treated it like a friendly. Not saying it's not a bad result, but your preseason games are more about getting your team clicking and figuring out what your weaknesses are, not beating a MLS Reserve side.
am pretty sure the galaxy were missing key players as an MLS all star team played chelsea, and beat chelsea 2-1, the mls team was made up of the leagues best players and had trained together for two sessions.
Yes,it's clear we do need a bigger stadium as we are one of the most supported clubs in world football now.Not quite sure why you're whistling though.
You keep denying son Odd you don't get a mention though. The survey, conducted by SportMarket on behalf of the Premier League, shows Manchester United have 354 million supporters worldwide, Chelsea have 134 million and Arsenal have 113 million. Liverpool are fourth with 71 million and even trail in traditional strongholds. Chelsea have 44 million fans in Asia and the Far East while Liverpool have 33 million. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...-in-danger-if-right-manager-is-not-found.html
Possibly! I know the Champions and US Open cup they are contractually obligated to only sell 15,000 tickets or something due to the Stadium being on a college campus, but as the preseason games are meant to generate money for the MLS team I'm not sure if they worked around it. There's also 2 sections in the stadium that are owned by companies but they're season tickets to the home depot center, not the Galaxy so they sadly remain empty unless it's a big game. It's also possible no wanted wanted to see some club called Tottenham play The last English team to get out played by the Galaxy's reserves won the league the next year. It could be a sign!
