The woman 26 seconds in is a moron...'I think it's a shame, 'cause he's a good guy'.

How is that relevant? There must have been SOMEONE they asked who was happy he's gone but chose not to put that part in.

Last night was so much better than Powell's served up for us, move on people.

To see these people mewling and puking over Sir Chris is not just nauseating in the extreme, it does the man himself no favours. To read some of the self aggrandising public thank yous to Sir Chris on Charlton Life (yes, I have been barred from CL 20 times) is to witness the type of people who.thrive on growing their own tomatoes, and do funny things in private with the tomato canes.

FFS.

Chris Powell had a unique relationship with the fans, no question about it, and I don't see anything wrong with being upset over his sacking, and the way it was done. Personally I disliked the way the Upper North called for tunnel jumps when we won, and Chris should have left it to one of the players. I sometimes wondered how the players really felt about seeing the manager taking the acclaim after they'd achieved a victory. REcently on CL there was a picture of Chris pumping his fists in a tunnel jump, and they all thought it was great, so of course there are a lot of fans upset now. I'm also upset because a year ago I was calling for him to get a contract extension, and it hasn't worked out. What we are about to find out is whether or not he was getting the best out of the players, and the only way we will stay up is if it turns out that he wasn't, right?

Time to move on, SIG. The pin up boy of failure has departed. He would have gone at Xmas but for Slater and Jiminez wanting to sell. A bunch of raspberries drooling over his "mythical" achievements and legendary niceness does not disguise the fact that he left us bottom of the league and with our proverbial pants round our collective ankles after Bramall Lane.

I would seriously urge all of the raspberries struggling with their emotions to transfer their allegiance to Sir Chris at his next club - which I guarantee will not be a club as big as ours.

thankfully, all important decisions, say like who supports who, is taken away from people like you and left to far more responsible adults.

i do have some windows need licking though? you up to it?

Fans like you told us that we were lucky to have Sir Chris, and that his services would be much in demand if he left.
How will you feel about making a fortnightly journey to AFCWimbledon to see him next season :1980_boogie_down:

we were lucky to have CP. he got us out of L1 where no one else seemed capable. we've lost a whole lot of class letting him go in the way we did. 4000 down on the attendance too proves i'm not the only one who thinks so.

fans like me were the ones who shat themselves when curbs left, because fans like you didnt have the foresight to see dowie was cack.

i'll support whoever is in charge, but as i'm capable, i'll take it upon myself to also worry about the way in which the club looks like its heading. you should try it sometime.

To suggest no one was capable of getting us out of L1 is pushing CP's talents a little too far. Even during that record-breaking season we witnessed some utter dross.

I think if Parkinson had been given the Jenkinson cash, he would have achieved a similar result, if not better.

There was a slight reduction in the crowd last night, but no way was it 4000. The attendance figures were often exaggerated during CP's tenure and 13000 is a little more realistic.

no, it was 4000 odd. official attendance was 12974.

last midweek home game was brighton with 17404 in attendance (yes they are almost neighbours), notts forest 15567.

people voted with their feet, probably why no boo's. reading twitter, most people dont want to fund roland.

What gets me at the moment is the inaccurate press coverage about CP not playing astrid and Reza as the reason he was sacked. Yes they didnt start at Sheffield but certainly astrid started 3 times and came off the bench three times and I think we have seen Reza four times and thuram
That he was sacked for not agreeing to be part of the project I dont doubt and the league position did not help him but with three games in hand did help RD to make it seem like a mercy killing.
I make no bones about liking CP as a manager and as somebody who has contributed a huge amount to CAFC, but as has been said by others what is done is done and we must move on.
Cautious support for Riga in the short term, but CAFC which is more than the sum of its component parts will continue to have my support. Will i renew my season ticket - almost certainly, will i treat RD with caution very much so. Will I be up in arms and stirring it if we become just a feeder club with no ambition -absolutely certain that the prats at the FA will get sick of the letters and lobbying until the rules are changed to ensure independence.

I can imagine, Jimmy. After all, it will prove the 'naïve' Anti-Powell brigade were right to call for his head.

Charlton Athletic is more than one man. It is the fans, the badge, the stadium, the history, and the area.

No one and nothing will keep me away from my club.

Everything you have just said is precisely why i feel like i no longer have a club to support.

RD does not care about the fans, i doubt much he gives a toss about the stadium or the history that makes it our home. He does not care much for our history quite clearly, he just threw a big part of it away. And as for the area, the youngsters from round here who show any form of promise will end up in Belgium, hardly local is it?

If you are happy supporting Standard Liege then good for you, but do not be fooled, this is not the dawning of a new and improved Charlton unless his priorities change drastically.

Regardless of what anyone says, Powell is not to blame for our league position. We all know that deep down, it would be impossible not to see that. Could he have done better? Maybe, but the drama surrounding the club, the contract issues with Kermo, Stephens, Poyet and Powell himself, the constant feeling of not knowing what to expect , and of course the lack of transfer activity are the reasons we are where we are

Doncaster rovers, Yeovil are two teams that are above us in the Championship, there Managers have not spent much. I agree to an extent, that we didn't strengthen the squad in the Summer. But Powell has to take responsibility for his own poor tactics, playing players out of position,Ie Cousins wide right, lousy use of substitutes. This love in with Powell conducted on CL is doing my head in. They weren't as quick to back Parkinson when he too had no money to spend and he was sacked when Charlton were still in with a chance of promotion.

People have been blinded by the fact that Powell has played for us so he is judged differently to other Managers, which is wrong. It is a results business and Managers should be judged solely on results and not on the fact that they are nice or they love the club.

Yes, and you could apply this to ownership as well. No-one doubts that Richard Murray is a true Charlton fan, yet his stewardship of the club has been a failure since Curbs left. In fact I'd argue that being a fan worked against him, leading to the disastrous Dowie appointment, which started the rot.

Ex employees of the Club claimed yesterday that Powell received an e mail from RD before the Sheffield Utd game, ordering him to pick certain players.

Of course you have "still got a club to support" ! How do you think we felt when we were handed that bit of paper at the Stoke game in 84? If you think this was bad you want to try going to Selhurst for five years to watch home games.

The fortunes of any football club are cyclical.

Chris Powell's statement released today through the LMA:

Following my sacking, the first thing I want to do is give my most sincere thanks to the superb Charlton Athletic fans for their continued and unconditional support. I have always maintained a wonderful relationship with them both as manager of the Club and during my three different spells as a player.

“I always said I would never walk away from this great Club and ultimately it’s not about individuals, it’s about the Club and our fantastic supporters.

“I have over 15 years association with Charlton dating back to 1998, and over the years I have enjoyed many truly wonderful times. So, it is with deepest regret that my time as manager has now come to an end. It was an honour to have been given the opportunity to manage the Club and without doubt the proudest moment of my career in football was leading Charlton to the League One title, amassing 101 points in the process - a club record points tally. On a personal note I was extremely privileged to have been voted by my peers as the League One Manager of the Year following the success we all enjoyed.

“We experienced a fantastic first season back in the Championship by finishing 9th last term and I was confident that we would have secured our Championship status once again this campaign.

“In closing I simply want to wish everyone connected with Charlton Athletic the very best for the future.

A very dignified statement from a very dignified man.

The debate about him has rumbled on and on too much here (I know I've been responsible for a lot of it) and we need to move on, so I'll leave it there.

Dick, could'nt agree more about the difference between the atmousphere when Parky was told to do one, and CP this week. Yet Parky also had a miniscule budget, and was also to suffer the indignity of Mr Murray telling fans that if they wanted Parky out, they should buy season tickets in quantities large enough to pay off his contract.
I thought then and still do hat despite his failings, Parky displayed a lot of dignity, and CP has done the same. Enough! We have a new manager, eand have to hope he can get more out of them than CP did. We are severely limited with our squad, but we've seen some bizarre tactics used this season, so I hope we can try to play some football now.

And Superchrissy, time to insert the word 'was' in your name?

I rated Parky really did, if he had got the jenkinson money he would have done just as well with Powell in my opinion. Not sure how we would have coped in the Championship under him though. Parky stopped the rot and us falling into league 2, i'm certain, yes he was boss when we got relegated to league 1 but that was Pardew's fault in my eyes, and forever will be. But just like Parky, I wish Powell all the best but got to move on and support the team now, and hope for a Sordell hat trick on Saturday at the Den

I wish CP all the best.

His statement shows he is a classy bloke. Time will tell if he becomes a good manager.

I will follow his fortunes in the same way I do with Parky.
