http://www.express.co.uk/sport/foot...e-Riga-has-yet-to-sign-a-contract-at-Charlton As much as we are angry by what has gone on, the style in which this article is written is disgusting.
It is a poor piece of writing and nothing more than an agenda driven attack on a man who has been asked to come in and do a job. The grammar stinks as well.
Despite it being a 'boring 0-0' it was the first time in a long time that I enjoyed (spells) of the football. I think RD is on to something......
There was certainly a positive vibe and a little more freedom about the team: Poyet looked to venture forward instead of standing still in front of the CBs; Sordell put in his best performance of the season (which isn't saying much, but he will get better); Asteroid can provide us with that bit of flair and has a wicked shot on him; Jackson drove the team on and his tackling was superb; Dervite brought the ball out of defence and rarely looked for the easy option of lumping it. I believe we should be positive. RD will no doubt want to make money from us, but what owner wouldn't? Besides, if we finish the season strongly, he may want to push us towards the real money-pit of world football. Now that would be exciting, eh? If it has the Charlton badge on the tin, I'm going to eat it.
Too many people are unable to separate sentimentalism and pragmatism. CP is a nice guy, but he had to go for the sake of the club's long-term future.
didnt see that view point on the video. but oh yes... lets just all focus and get behind operation "feeder club".
The woman 26 seconds in is a moron...'I think it's a shame, 'cause he's a good guy'. How is that relevant? There must have been SOMEONE they asked who was happy he's gone but chose not to put that part in. Last night was so much better than Powell's served up for us, move on people.
Daft comment, SIG. It was so contrived, I was expecting to hear Demi Roussos singing Forever and Ever in the background.
was factually accurate. show me a video of people celebrating CP being gone and i'll change my point of view.
So half a dozen fans eulogising CP proves that sacking him was the wrong decision, eh? One nerk on that video basically said sacking him was wrong because he is 'a good guy'. How delightfully twee. Where were all the protests last night? The mass exodus? The turning of the backs? The anti-Roland chants? The silence? The boycott of the club shop, the burger stalls, the programme vendors, the jackpot tickets and Bartram's? Nope, it was business as usual. Fact is, the majority of fans will take this decision with a pinch of salt and just continue to follow the club. Most already have, but a few will hanker for the days of dreadful football, poor tactics and a beaming smile from CP. If that is what you really want, then follow CP, not Charlton. Or buy a poster of him. I'm sorry for sounding harsh, but the club needs to move on and that is the most important thing.
fair point, but are you not at all worried that the moving forward means having a yes man in charge, someone who's not picking or buying the best players he can get in charge of the football we pay to see. CP refused to do that and got fired for it. you just sit there, being a happy clapper, ignoring the bigger picture. people with a little bit more about them will actually see whats coming - franchise. we might have had poor football under CP, and we know why - no backing. in most peoples eyes this would be preferable to having the chairman picking the team from 3000 miles away, nicking the best players for his favoured team.
I am sick and tired of the love in for Sir Chris Powell, personally I find it sickening. There are going to be big changes to this club in the next couple of years. Riga is a caretaker manager who will see out the rest of the season with the first team and then move on to the academy. We will be getting a more established Coach. Derek Boateng looks like he will be joining on loan.
I'm not overly worried at the moment, no. I would rather be on the inside to see what is happening on the pitch, and then I can make a judgement on whether the football is improving or not. Last night wasn't perfect, but there were spells to suggest we are going to get the ball down and play. Besides, we can't go any lower, can we? I believe CP was sacked because we are bottom of the league, playing dreadful football, and were knocked out of the cup without so much as a whimper. It was a fair sacking in my opinion, yet each to their own with regards to that one. I am far from a 'happy clapper', SIG. If I see our club turning into a feeder for Liege, then I will make my feelings known to Roland. However, I am excited to see who we bring in, who we let go, how our new pitch improves the standard of football, and how we build on our already fruitful academy. There is plenty to look forward to, but only if you look beyond CP's sacking. Roland is not going to pay millions for a club and then run it into the ground. He knows the money is in English football, and he will ensure we are in the running for it. After all, if he wanted a stud farm, he could have bought a League One club for a fraction of the price. Let's at least give this new ownership a chance before we do anything drastic. And the renewal prices are pretty attractive, eh?
i'm all up for supporting whoever is in charge. my main concern is that our club is not someones main priority - we'll never get back to the prem if we arent.
One thing that confuses me about that theory is why would he swap a job at AC Milan's academy for a job at ours? I understand he's Roland's mate but I don't think there's any comparison in terms of size of the clubs.
I agree. It IS sad to see Chris Powell go and he WILL be missed by many BECAUSE he's a nice guy and a Charlton person. If this were any other young British manager in the same position with the same results this season, it would be a perfectly reasonable decision. I have always supported CP and maintain that he will become a great manager someday, but the man that makes the decisions (RD) doesn't see it that way, or at least can't afford to wait. Maybe it is for the best, maybe CP was stuck in a rut and this IS the best outcome for everyone, and maybe RD DOES have a clue - he certainly has alot more experience in running football clubs than me or anyone I know! I don't imagine that he has any sinister plans to take Charlton apart brick by brick and rebuild it as Standard Liege UK and think his comments on a footballing network might have been blown somewhat out of proportion. RD has employed somebody he knows and trusts without the commitment of a contract to help quickly turn things around to avoid the drop. Only time WILL tell if his decision was right. If we do indeed turn into a feeder club with no identity, I will protest, but until that actually happens (or begins to) I am willing to give RD & Co. the benefit of the doubt. Let's just wait and see.
Time to move on, SIG. The pin up boy of failure has departed. He would have gone at Xmas but for Slater and Jiminez wanting to sell. A bunch of raspberries drooling over his "mythical" achievements and legendary niceness does not disguise the fact that he left us bottom of the league and with our proverbial pants round our collective ankles after Bramall Lane. I would seriously urge all of the raspberries struggling with their emotions to transfer their allegiance to Sir Chris at his next club - which I guarantee will not be a club as big as ours.
