I think the narrative around Potter has been really pathetic. All the stuff about his appearance, not being angry enough, not moaning at refs, people saying that's because he's a small club manager. The Premier League has a weird thing where basically no managers ever successfully work their way up to the top of it, the top clubs all get managers who've proven themselves to a high level abroad before coming here. I'm not sure how it can ever happen when managers who come from a lesser English club are looked at this way.

There's a lot of talk about him playing players out of position or making surprising team selections but FFS, that's the same with every manager at every club. People are always surprised by selections, doesn't mean they're wrong.

Obviously they've got rid because results haven't been good enough, but I can't for the life of me understand why you go for someone like Potter, who is proven not as a quick fix manager but as someone who successfully builds teams over time, and then sack him when it doesn't work immediately. Football is just so utterly daft sometimes.

Clubs saying they want a project manager then sacking them when they don't get immediate results are just idiotic. Same with Bayern and Naggelsman. It's why I find the top echelon of the game so tedious. It's creeping in lower down though, just have to look at the matchday thread on here..

I couldn't agree more, seems a daft appointment if they re not willing to be patient. I really thought they would stick with him, but whether it is fan pressure or just a panic decision who knows?

Palace or Lester look to be a good possibility for him!

I think players, via their agents, apply pressure. At top teams, players sign on the basis that they'll be playing at a certain level and in specific competitions. If they don't want to give the manager time, then they threaten to leave. The clubs then facing losing better players and not signing of the same calibre. The board fear a downward spiral, so works out cheaper to sack the manager.

This doesn't explain teams like Watford.
