Yes, but traditionally, Washington was not within the boundaries of Sunderland. That's Humbles' point. On his terms, he's right. On Gary Hutchinson's terms he (and the rest of you) are right. It's a matter of which 'Sunderland' you're looking at. In old terms, Washington was a village well outside of Sunderland, as was Penshaw and Whitburn. In modern terms, that's splitting hairs. D'you see what I mean?

In modern terms, you're totally correct, mate. Back in the 1950s, when I was a kid, Sunderland's boundary was just west of Grindon Mill pub, and if somebody wants to say Penshaw was not a part of Sunderland, he'd be right by over a mile. To us, a walk to Penshaw was visiting the countryside! But in modern terms, that's a joke. To say that Washington isn't connected to Sunderland today is just being silly. But, as Humbles' said, it wasn't always the case. You're both right on your own terms.

7 and a half miles from the centre of one to the other. I call it that immediate area, 2 hour walk. I've done 24mile walks mate. it's nowt, they're on each others door step. Don't care where the boundary was then, is now or going to be in the future, it's the local area and we've every right to use it for commercial purposes, Same for DC united, they wouldn't have any interest in forming a partnership with Washington F.C. I hadn't realised at first Humbles was being so anal about these details down to a pin point on a map, it's pathetic and oh so very sad. Let him be right in his own anal hair splitting sado little way. It's a valid connection weather he likes it or not and the connection will used by our club weather he likes it or not.

Neither was Ryhope, Silksworth or Bishopwearmouth at one point or other, try arguing they arn't part of Sunderland. Based on that point, the airport they all take the piss out of us for (because its in Newcastle not Sunderland) isn't historically in Newcastle either. They can't have it both ways.

From my first post on this thread, I've been saying that Gary Hutchinson was right in modern terms. So what in god's name is your point?
 
The southern media think Nissan, the Angel of the North, Baltic, Sage, Holy Island and Durham Cathedral is in Newcastle. I wonder why?
 
Why is this Boundaries discussion still going round in circles? It's like some people like being mind numbingly boring, going round in circles. We know it wasn't in the boundary at the time but it was still local, The two places haven't relocated, they just expanded. What you call 'mind numbingly boring' is called history to the rest of us. I've said right from my first post on this subject that Gary Hutchinson was right in what he said in modern terms. So can you tell me why I got so much flak for it please?

I think you'll find Washington village is in the middle of Durham, Newcastle, and sunderland unless your going to start splitting hairs about it.

I had no intention of patronizing you. But the **** I've got from various posters on here is quite unbelievable. Humbles did have his point historically, but I agreed entirely that in modern terms it made no difference whatsoever. And I was made out to look like an idiot! I'm amazed at the **** some people can make up about someone.
