Completely agree, landlords moan about the industry and lack of footfall while selling £6 pints of Carling. I bang on about my local a lot because it's ****ing brilliant and the price is fair, it's packed all the time. It's not Spoons sucking the life out of pubs it's the inability of the landlord to realise the industry has changed and that people are not willing to pay those kinds of prices for a pint.
Went to a pub in Stockport where Amstel was £3.75 which was a pleasing throwback. The sort of place you could buy stolen meat off a bloke who wanders in and the dyke behind the bar has definitely headbutted rowdy punters before. The Sir Robert Peel if you ever find yourself in the area.
Following day in a not particularly trendy part of Manchester it was close to London prices.
Then Burnley cricket club three pints for £13 with post-match prices advertised at £3/pint. Huge place, short wait, sport on, reasonable looking barmaids by Burnley standards.
