He deflected several in that didn't count as an official own goal on top of that. He did ok though in the second half of the season. Quite harsh to include him.

Just noticed Welbeck had the lowest conversion rate of all players to score <laugh>

Someone complained earlier that we hadn't made many lists...well done, Jos:) He came good towards the end of the season, although this is still an area that needs serious strengthening. Mauricio did well with what he had, but pretty sure a CB is high on his shopping list.

I think amongst all right-minded (!?) Saints fans, Jos is universally liked or even loved. The trouble is, that's more to do with his personality and commitment than ability. I must admit to having a soft spot for the lumbering great Dutchman. I think of it as the "Benali effect".

Agree. Jos was a great influence last season. He has done a lot better recently, but those first few games ... :emoticon-0106-cryin

Even recently he's not been brilliant, he's just cut out the huge howlers. After all against Sunderland he stuck his leg out again and just flicked Bardsley's shot out of Boruc's grasp and into the top corner. I'll be very disappointed if he's first choice again next year.

Jos is a very good Championship defender but I don't think he quite cuts it in the Premier League. Hopefully we'll see more for Forren next season.

Forren was never played even when we had injuries...he is not good enough. He was here long enough that fitness wasn't an issue. I expect him to be loaned out next season.

Given how prone our CB's are to silly mistakes that's really saying something. Although maybe MP didn't want to upset a stable defence when it was just starting to work?

I really doubt we would pay £4 mil for a player then loan him out without giving him a chance in the first team. Its not like he is 18 and one for the future, fully expect him to be one of the 4 CBs we start next season with

Yet he still makes the England squad time an time again...

Here we go again. If he was in the England squad (or indeed the United one) primarily to score goals, you might have a point. As it is, he isn't, and you don't.

No other English striker can play the role he does as effectively as he does. Until that changes, or Hodgson decides he doesn't need that kind of player anymore, he will merit his place.

If the rule was expanded to shots that would have been saved that are deflected in count as own goals, rather than just ones off target, he'd have another two own goals to his name. Poor Jos indeed.

I don't think our Jos deserves a place on that list, I think its really unfair. It was a horrible start to the season, one of the steepest learning curves I've seen at this level. But the lad gave a 100% every-time, his head didn't go down causing us more problems. In fact the real reason for most of the OG's is the fantastic Mr Fox. Again, a player (err a person then) I like, but man has he caused problems. His bizarre positioning in some games must make the CB want to just run up field & abandon the bloody defence. Anyway, I'd take any of our under skilled triers over players who have coasted through the season without giving a damn for the likes of Qpr.

Welbeck had the lowest chance conversion rate of any goalscorer in the Premier League last season. It doesn't matter what his job is, that's still ****.

Jos is a Premier league quality CB. So is Jose. Bardsley`s Sunderland goal - ball arrives in the box in the Saints LB position - Bardsley (their RB) unmarked - all the time in the world to set himself and shoot (no critisism intended by the way of our LB or LM). Jos gets across to try and block it, unfortunately deflects off him. Didn`t turn his back on the ball, as often happens in that situation. I think he should be cut some slack. I`ll take him ahead of 12M Samba, or numerous other CBs in the PL.
