Of course all lives should matter equally, but the slogan black lives matter points at the issue that black American lives don't appear to matter. At least nowhere near as much as the majority population of white Americans. It's the focus that is the requirement. In a similar way, if you remember when the journalist Owen Jones walked out of a Sky News programme on the Orlando shootings, and he wanted the presenter and other correspondent to recognise that it was a gay-hatred motivated crime. They were talking about people being killed, and rightly so, but they failed to recognise the importance that it was gay-hatred orientated. It was the focus they lacked.

Owen Jones should never be listened to. He still portrays Northern working classes as if they are dirty faced coming out of the pits and forges. He pretends to know what people are thinking without ever realising he is part of the bubble he is trying to criticise for not being able to see outside of the bubble.

The point isn't about Owen Jones. It is about focus on an issue. It didn't have to be about the Orlando shootings and Owen Jones' reaction to it. Instead of stamping all over the point I made, you need to pull back and think.

But someone can be outraged by such a scene because of personal bigotry OR a particular religious fundamentalism. After all, however "homophobic" the likes of Owen Jones may think our society is, we haven't demonstrated this by throwing gays from high buildings. If his act was influenced by such religious leanings, then it was a "hate crime" against our whole society and way of life (including acceptance of gays).

So last night was a hate crime against party goers? All of these attacks focus on mass gatherings. There is no need for any sides to constantly claim things as against them. These are crimes against humanity and all this determination to claim the label makes a mockery of humanity.
