Ian Hislop:

"If you voted leave because you’re worried about immigration, you’ve got a choice of the Home Secretary who was in charge of cutting immigration from 300,000 to tens of thousands - and didn’t do it.

If you voted leave because you’re angry about global capitalism, you’ve got a woman who is funded by a hedge fund. She worked in the banking industry! That’ll really help all those left behind around the country, to help hedge fund managers based in Guernsey.

What choice is that?!"

Nail hit on head. That's real democracy folks.

Was terrific on leavers moaning at the metropolitan elite: "When you lose election, you don't just throw your arms up in the air and say, yeah fair enough, you were right. You keep making the arguments. You don't shut up for 5 years."

They lit the fire, and then buggered off.

My favourite part of the week now hearing the much more sensible and fairly unbiased (as anyone can be unbiased) views of Michael Portillo.

I don't really know what to say after that Question Time.
What a **** state our political system is in. I remember we did some mock parliaments when I was in school, I'm pretty certain we were more grown up at 15/16 than the real politicians.

Depressing that the most reasonable, relatable and insightful individual on the panel isn't actually a politician, but a journalist.

Today on ITV News Leadsom clarified that she was “not happy” about the gay marriage law because of “hurt caused to many Christians”. Marriage, she continued, should have remained “as a Christian service that was for men and women who wanted to commit in the eyes of god"

Seeing this being posted a lot...

Leadsom is a backward hick who hopefully has no future in UK politics. I have no time for people whose agenda are lead by religion and lack complete common sense.

Sadly, I expect she'll carry a lot of popularity with that viewpoint. Just wait.

Not sure whether this should be on this thread, but it is related to Brexit, it seems. I refer to the rise in hate crimes. In particular following the dreadful attack on a Polish family in Plymouth.

What do people think of the idea that Brexit has given free reign to life's nutters? We have a significant Polish community in Chester, and I'm not hearing of any issues. What's going on down Souf?

She will. I think those who keep saying she's too extreme to be elected keep forgetting it's the Tory membership who will decide. A tiny % of the population, mostly middle class, mostly men, mostly leave, mostly living in the 1950s.

I'm not sure about violence, but Peterborough saw printed notes posted through doors the day of the result. Clearly pre-planned.

There was a report on R4 yesterday saying no increase in incidents had been noted, only an increase in media interest and less apparent shame(?) expressed by those involved.

Either way it's totally offensive but let's continue to condemn while not being led down another hysteria filled path by the Mail etc.

Better still, just ignore the Mail :)

Those comments on gay marriage are an absolute disgrace. She could be the best PM in the world but if that's her view she will never have my backing.

Always do, mate. And I certainly don't want to set any hares running. Just genuinely interested if there is any real sense in which Brexit has given racists licence to commit race crimes, or whether it is a perception. Always good to know what's happening on the ground. I don't get out much these days.
