Ian, are you aware that this week is the centenary of Miles Davis’ birth, and that Radio 3 are marking the occasion with a series of programmes about Miles and his influence on the music of the 20th Century?

Good evening

I have been listening to JRR this week and am looking forwards to the other programmes. I probably have more Miles in my collection thn anything else and still only have a fraction of his work now that so many bootlegs are being released. My favourite groups are the 2nd quintet with Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter but I love the Gil Evans collaboration. At the time I loved the 1980s output but am less enthused by that these days. "Tutu" has not aged well, Much prefer the acoustic recordings.

Thanks for the heads up.

The conviction of Peter Murrill is quite staggering. My understanding was that the embezzlement related to elements like stationary but seeing tht this now involves cars, I do wonder whether Sturgeon was genuinely innocent. If a huge camper van had materialised on my drive, I would ask my wife questions! She was a politician in the widest sense but I am just thinking that she must have had some knowledge. I see John Swinney is now being drawn into the debate. Similar problems for SNP as Southampton, I think.

Andrew Milne: the litigious bully who demanded five-figure sums from homeowners
The Sheffield Tribune investigated allegations that London-based solicitor Andrew Milne used leasehold loopholes to extract sums of £25,000 upwards from Yorkshire homeowners. Milne has subsequently been arrested as part of a criminal investigation.

The private sector receives around £2.5bn a year for waiting-list reduction work, often done by staff who are (or used to be) employed by the NHS. There is a tendency for private providers to cherry-pick easier cases, skimp on training junior staff and refer complications back to the NHS.

Funny but true. One of the upgrades Lincoln City are making are higher fences around the training ground. lol. Was announced before any Saints stories came out.

The most interesting thing in UK politics at the moment is happening North of the border. I am struggling see how there cannot be implications for Nicola Sturgeon. Just think that this news is happening at the wrong time for SNP and will ultimately lead to Farage getting more than a toe hold in the next elections. Swinney needs to react but how he deals with this will be fascinating. I do not see Sturgeon facing criminal charges but I do feel that the SNP will need to come clean as to how the culture of her management facilitated the misuse of party funds.

I always felt that Sturgeon was the best "politician" (in the broader, more cynical sense) in the UK over the last ten years. She hummilated Westminster and often set the agenda when faced against Boris. I think her legacy is now tarnished.

There must be implications for her surely .

She never spotted the bloody big motorhome at her in-laws .

That’s utter rubbish .

She’s very clever with her answers though . Saw her interviewed by Laura Kuenssberg .

No direct denial , but sloppy shoulders answers like I’m not aware , I have no recollection ( or similar ) .

Was she sweating? Just asking for a friend.

With this I could accept her not knowing her husband was committing embezzlement and I could accept her not knowing someone was embezzling from the SNP but once they are the same person it gets harder to understand how it could have gone on without her knowing - at some point the extra money being spent in the household has to have come up

She is a totally discreditable politician and anyone who had been giving her any sort of attention over the years shouldn't be surprised. She kept the finances closely controlled and anyone from Joanna Cherry to the auditors were either booted out or resigned if they started asking awkward questions, like what's happened to the money? She doesn't become a great politician just by standing up to Boris Johnson, what did she actually achieve to benefit the people of Scotland?

An independence supporter who now apparently lives in London and £600k of ring-fenced funds for a second referendum "missing" from the accounts.

The whole business is really awkward for the SNP as the question needs to be addressed as to the missing £600 k and the fact that the treasurer and leader were married. Sturgeon kept a tight rein in how the SNP was managed and , as Joanna Cherry has commented, this needs to be investigated. What else was conveniently swept under the carpet ?

In my opinion this will be a major problem for SNP which will now focus on transparency and credibility. I am sure that we have not heard the last of this and more is likely to come out of the woodwork as far as how other politicians were silenced in order to prevent damaging disclosures. Swinney will need to act fast and be decisive but refusing an enquiry will send put the wrong vibes. I can see this becoming very bad indeed for the SNP. Sturgeon seems to be made out of Teflon. I am not sure that will be enough to save her reputation and the lack of awareness regarding something so obvious as the new motor home must surely destroy her credibility. I used to think she was a truly, great politician and someone who was setting the agenda. I still think she is , albeit she is now a kind of SNP Mandelson. I am not convinced she will avoid criminal censure.

Does that make you question your judgement at all, Ian?

I think a lot of people were taken in by Sturgeon. I have no time for nationalists of any persuasion, but even I could see why people respected her professional demeanor, and something which looked a hell of a lot like integrity.

Reminds me of a line attributed to Sam Goldwyn; "There's no substitute for sincerity. If you can fake that, you've got it made".

Zoo official suspended over albino buffalo

A National Zoo official is reportedly on the verge of losing his job after a sign bearing the name "Donald Trump" was placed at the enclosure of the much-discussed buffalo. On Saturday, the government issued an order temporarily suspending Atikur Rahman, the curator of the National Zoo.

The notification, signed by Md. Delwar Hossain, Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, accused Atikur Rahman of misconduct.

However, the notice did not specify the nature of the alleged misconduct, nor has the government provided any official explanation.

A Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock official, speaking to journalists on condition of anonymity, said, "Government affairs cannot be run based on what goes viral on Facebook. The higher authorities did not find it appropriate to officially display a buffalo with the name of a foreign head of state. Moreover, the spelling of the name was reportedly incorrect."

The notification stated that disciplinary proceedings had been initiated against Dr. Md. Atikur Rahman, a BCS (Livestock) cadre officer and curator of the National Zoo, under Section 39(1) of the Government Service Act, 2018, and Rule 3(b) of the Government Employees (Discipline and Appeal) Rules on charges of misconduct.

It further stated that, under Rule 12(1) of the same regulations, the authorities considered it necessary and appropriate to suspend him temporarily. During the suspension period, he will receive a subsistence allowance in accordance with the rules.

The rare albino buffalo was originally purchased from the Rajshahi City cattle market and had been raised for ten months at Rabeya Agro Farm in Narayanganj.

Because of its hairstyle and facial features, which resembled those of the U.S. President, the buffalo was named "Donald Trump."
The buffalo was taken to its buyer's residence in Keraniganj, Dhaka, on Monday for sacrifice during Eid-Ul-Azha.

The animal received a grand farewell: draped in a blue velvet cloak, showered with flower petals, accompanied by colorful smoke effects, and led along a red carpet.

After videos and photographs of the buffalo spread across the country through various media platforms, several international news outlets also published stories about it.

However, before the media attention, a resident of the Zinjira area in Keraniganj had already booked the animal for sacrifice.
As Eid approached, the buyer completed the payment and took possession of the buffalo on Monday, according to Ziauddin Mridha, owner of Rabeya Agro Farm.

He said the buffalo, weighing 700 kilograms, was sold for 385,000 taka under the live-weight pricing system at 550 taka per kilogram.
The buffalo, which attracted attention not only in Bangladesh but also abroad, was taken to the National Zoo on Wednesday night.

Earlier that day, Home Affairs Adviser Salahuddin Ahmed told Jamuna Television that, due to concerns about potential disorder, the buyer in Keraniganj had been refunded and the buffalo returned to the farm, where it would be cared for temporarily.

Later that night, National Zoo Director Rafiqul Islam Talukder announced that a decision had been made to keep "Donald Trump" at the zoo and that the buffalo was being transferred there.

During the Eid holidays, the animal became one of the main attractions for visitors to the National Zoo in Mirpur, Dhaka. In fact, the buffalo, housed in Block L-07, drew such large crowds that it rivaled-and in some cases surpassed-the popularity of the zoo's tigers and lions.
