Honestly, no clue. I don't want Farage in but right now, it looks inevitable he will be the next PM. Ideally for me, the Tories will get their act together to see off Reform but I can't see that happening any time soon.

These were local elections Tom. The PM was voted in at the last General Election. No matter how many people think it was, yesterday was not a vote on the Westminster government (except in Westminster, where the Tories narrowly beat Labour, the rest nowhere; not a result likely to be reflected in the rest of the country).

The government is deeply unpopular. Any government would be, given the number of grievances people have, and the damage done to our country by the 2008 banking crisis, Brexit, and Covid. Replace the man at ye top, and whoever replaces him quickly becomes unpopular. Meanwhile, for all his faults, Starmer soldiers on; that, at least, is to his considerable credit.

I know they were local but national politics always has an influence, now matter how small, on them.

Not because I'm some dyed-in-the-wool Tory (by any stretch), but because at a local level the Tory council here has been excellent to date - they were voted out for Labour in the last local election, and they've been utterly dreadful. And we haven't then turned to the odious Reform lot (or the Greens....*shudders*).

So the local council element for me is a very different thing to who should/who I'd like to be running national government.

I want a government, coalition probably, formed that would bring about a PR system based on a single transferable vote as were some mayoral elections before tory gerrymandering.

It’s also a legendary truth that Man Utd were close to sacking Alex Ferguson after a frustrating start.

Also, some Saints fans (mentioning no names) wanted to sack Tonda after 5 winless games.

These are local elections. I feel like the general populace are getting confused. How does Starmer etc have anything to do with people’s votes? I’ve voted Conservatives for local elections all my life as they generally do a good job, and care for the community as they are part of said community. So I kind of go with the continuity.

On the other hand, I’ve never voted conservative within a GC.

People are confusing the two, which is not surprising. The media muddy it all to a make it feel like it will change anything at a Westminster level.
