We can all move on when Starmer's out of office. He's not fit to be PM.
Well that's your opinion Tom, held by 50% of Britons according to IPSOS and begs the question of who would you replace him with? I'm no great fan at all and it's not at all unlikely he'll be replaced before the next election now is not the time. Angela Rayner, Andy Burnham, Wes Streeting and Ed Miliband front runners and parliament forecast to run to full term.

It's not the law, it's the ministerial code. Johnson resigned (eventually) after breaching the code when his cabinet ministers started resigning. If Starmer has lied or intentionally misled MP's he will have broken it too.
The point is he hasn't been found to have breached the code and there is an investigation. Asking for another is silly. It's more about posturing before local elections when really we should all be more worried about the cost of living etc.

I really don't get this opinion. I don't think anyone is saying that Johnson was a better PM. I don't think anyone is even saying the last government was better than this one. Why is he constantly mentioned when Starmer gets criticism? Johnson was dumped 4 years ago, Starmer is the current PM and should be judged on that alone. At the moment he comes across as dishonest, clueless and weak.
The comparison with Johnson seem to be saying if Johnson was incompetent then it's OK for Starmer to be as well.
Surely if Johnson was all the things he is accused of being (probably was) then surely you would want Starmer to be much better, and not used as a comparison to excuse his dishonesty.
Is he weak, is he clueless or have you been reading too much right wing tabloid material. He definitely made a big error here but it is important to compare the standards his behaviour is being monitored at when others were significantly worse. It's like saying why are we comparing the charges against Leicester and West Brom when they both broke the rules. It's context and gravity.

Oh dear. End of conversation.

This is a slightly odd comment, IAOG. You're saying that nobody that has any criticism of Israel's current standing with regard to the war against Iran/Palestine/Lebanon can't be balanced? That in itself is a slightly hypocritical standpoint.
Depends if they also make any comments defending Israel at other times LTL, I can't say I have seen many if at all. If someone thinks that Israel is to blame and has always been to blame, because of .................that is their opinion but it's not balanced.

If by saying I'm being slightly hypocritical because I defend Israel but not Hamas, Hezbollah, Houthis or Iran you would be wrong to do so. I defend Israel for the various reasons I have previously posted. In my opinion they are justified to take the actions they have and come down firmly on their side. So my opinions on who to support are not balanced, in the main I support Israel but that's not being hypocritical. That applies to everyone who takes a side. There is no one on here who has given both sides of the story in an even handed opinion, no one.
However, I did say only the other day, "Israel's response is calculated, ruthless and quite often brutal." I doubt that qualifies as balanced but it's as far as I'm going.

I'm just waiting for someone to say the same about Israel and for absolutely nothing to be done. Except a like or two obviously.
You can wait on that's not going to happen. Critiscm of the disproportional reaction in Gaza to the despicable Hamas attack, the settler violence in the West Bank and the war on Iran will continue. Those that consider such criticism as anti-Semitic are well wide of the mark.

On a less divisive topic and probably more impactful to most people what do people think about rent controls?

Landlords will be screaming blue murder, but something has to be done to protect tenants, especially in an economic climate where home ownership is a dream for many, and social housing barely exists

No, I’m saying it could be seen as hypocritical in that you’re saying any criticism of the current Israeli approach is ‘unbalanced’ - I’d suggest it’s unbalanced to not allow any criticism. You’ll find no support for Hamas, the Houthis, Hezbollah or the Iranian regime (as distinct from ‘Iran’), at least from me.

That “as distinct from” is important. I wholly support Israel’s right to exist, whilst also finding Netanyahu and his government pretty horrendous.,
