I find these people to be a very small minority magnified mostly by those outraged at the views. Cultural appropriation was a university student outrage topic a decade ago. Are people still bothered? Since all culture is appropriated- from those around us - I always found it a weird concept.

It still goes on. My second son looks "just about white" and was harranged by students last year at his college, students of the white variety btw, about having his hair braded, blah blah. Of course he told them to Go f*** themselves, but it went on for a couple of months. They are just thickos. He is mixed race, his Mum is black and they are whiteys fighting someone else's fight with no idea what they are on about or fighting for!

I have a Washington Redskins t-shirt, with the Indian head logo, which has been cancelled by the club, who are no longer called the Redskins due to sensitivity to cultural appropriation issues. My mixed race American friend complimented me on it. She's mostly Mexican heritage, rather Mohican or whatever. But I think most people actually ignore that ****.

Well when I said Braids it is more cornrows with Braids hanging from the back and sides. I'm not that wired into the terminology of traditionally black hair styling. Looks a mess when it isn;t done like that though because mixed he has neither afro hair nor whitey hair so it it just a big frizz. lol

Lol. I am actually much more patient and very non confrontational face to face. autism for me is much more a case of avoiding people, avoiding conversation with anyone I am not very comfortable and back down on any argument so I can walk away and get on with my life. lol

These ICE videos coming out of the US are really distressing. Kids dragged from their homes in the middle of the night. Women pulled out of their cars. A pastor getting shot in the face with a rubber bullet. How anyone can think Trump isn’t a fascist, I have no idea.

They had better hope the Democrats do not get in next time as I think some people un thr currently administration might end up doing a stretch in 6 or 7 years time. Trump will be long gone by them even if he doesn't fall down the stairs.

I actually think it is time for the US to get rid of life peerages for the Supreme Court. This partisan top body is undermining the integrity of the constitution. Not sure what the best answer is though. Everything in the US is bitter rivalry.

Just been listening to Noga Tarnapolsky talking to James O’Brien from Jerusalem, and the relief and joy mixed with caution in her voice was palpable. The ceasefire has already started, and the next stage will be the release of all the Israeli hostages, including the bodies of those who have died in Hamas captivity.

One of the most interesting parts of her analysis was when she was explaining about the strange relationship Netanyahu has with the Qatari state. It was Netanyahu who persuaded Qatar to funnel billions of dollars to Hamas, in order to undermine the legitimate Palestine Authority and take control of Gaza.

Let’s all send our hopes and prayers to that part of the world that this ceasefire builds into a permanent peace.

And yes, give Trump a million Nobel Prizes for his part in bringing it about.

Once the hostages are released then there will be no reason for Israel to continue its offensive and a long term ceasefire will be set.

As for the future, It seems like the Palestinians will have to forgo their claim for Jerusalem in exchange for independence.
I guess we’ll see what appetite there is for concessions on both sides after this latest conflict

As you say, the latest conflict, anyone believing in a lasting peace and cohabitation of the land is pissing in the wind. The Gaza attack has distracted from the ultra settlers who believe they have a divine right to the 'promised land'. Likewise Hamas and other Muslim fanatics will be planning their next atrocity. ****ing sad the world today.

I hadn’t realised that the Evangelical Christian Right in the US believes the rapture will only occur when Israel dominates the region, hence their massive financial support.

"Left voices" means the dominant vocal lot that "speak on behalf" of everyone! What the real world thinks only counts on voting day. The rest of the time is those with a platform talking on "our behalf" portraying their own preferences as if they are representative of those without a platform!

I can’t hear them and I’m not interested
I suspect t that it’s Right voices and Algorithms amplifying them so that ordinary people can get angry about it

Maria Corina Machado is receiving the Nobel Peace prize for being one of the most "extraordinary examples" of courage in Latin America in recent times.

Machado has been a key unifying figure, the committee chairman adds.

"This is precisely what lies at the heart of democracy, our shared willingness to defend the principles of popular rule, even though we disagree.

"At a time when democracy is under threat, it is more important than ever to defend this common ground."

Trump didn’t get it

I was reading about this and it was never on the cards. The secret shortlist is compiled and locked in January and Trump had only had a few days in office then.

In fairness to Trump, I dislike him a lot and a lot of what he does, but occasionally (as in now), he has started something quite extraordinary and needs some credit (not a Nobel prize...)
