Because it's not as clearer cut thing as the name suggests to you; It's not a unsafe country for all, the failed applicant might not be considered to be in danger of being oppressed, they could be a criminal, a fleeing felon; or might likely be part of the oppression which makes Pakistan not a "safe country"
But this is half of the problem! Most people have no problem with genuine asylum seekers / refugees. Those that are genuinely in danger in their home country! The problem has arisen with most of these boats, and other methods of entry to seek asylum, being working age men seeking a better life but not actual "refugees" and that has been exacerbated by those in power, or those with ideological or some nefarious reasons for wanting to defend mass migration, by constantly trying to use the genuine asylum seeker to defend the vast numbers of non genuine asylum seekers!
Quite often the first defense is "but the NHS.........." which strikes no blows in the public's imagination because these are people who are here legally from the start and obviously necessarily filling "skills" gaps. No-one is arguing to send half the NHS "back home."
We would not be in this position if these power players had not played this game for so long!
The other night I was watching something and "so Ukranians should be deported?" which is literally a stupid comeback against someone in an argument about "unauthorised migrants" in terms of genuine asylum or not.
For a start most of the Ukranians did come through legal avenues and are women, children or the elderly! Of course the second attack once that is answered is the "racist" card where they then revert to "just because they're white" because their first attack failed.
Reality is this current situation has been years / decades in the making because of those in power constantly trying to present economic migrants (for want of a better word) as all being genuine asylum seekers / refugees.
And then of course trying to pin Brexit to it by suddenly championing how disastrous "losing access to" the Dublin Protocol is when even the European commission has constantly criticised its failing and, even when migration numbers were lower, only succeeded in a very very low number (single digit %) of successful requests (across the EU not just the UK) indeed in 2017 we ended up with more approved transfer to us than from us!
Until about 2 months ago no-one was talking about the Dublin Protocol. Last 2 months increasingly it has become the No1 go to Farage attack and people seem not to care that they are now championing a protocol that has been re-written twice yet is still heavily criticised by the ECHR and the European Commission for its failings as if it used to be the magic bullet! It is not and all EU governments complain about its failings.........except now ours because it is flavour of the month and because it suits their cause to pretend it was of any use at all! If anything it has become worse since we got our deal done in 2018/19 yet still in this thread it has become the "magic bullet" and everybody ignoring it has never worked at all well!
So lets stop pretending this is some kind of "gotcha" against Farage or anyone else! It is just yet another fake attack that no-one believes
