Guardian opinion pieces calling for boycott of Anerican goods . I applaud this.

There is so much bad stuff happening now including a campaign to pardon the killer of George Floyd and to question the merits of interring black soldiers at Arlington cemetery. There have also been efforts today to scrub Barak Obama from the records as US president. There is also the issue of no one being available to deal with the avian flu outbreak in America . On top of this Trump is encouraging the genocide in Gaza.

It is really shocking. I think that things are going to be really bad. Time to consider America as enemy ?

It’s hard to know where to start, answering a question like that. A country is a political, national, and geographical entity, with its own cultural identity, usually sharing a common language and history. It doesn’t exist for the sole purpose of making a profit for its owners and shareholders, it has a huge range of other function. A country’s responsibilities to, and expectations of its citizens, cannot be universally monetised or counted on a balance sheet.

And it’s this naive mindset that leads to the UK getting worse by every metric.

Running the economy like a well run business is not mutually exclusive to these things you mentioned like a national identity.

In fact if it was run well economically, most of those things would also be improved. The state of the economy is the largest driver into the feeling of despair in most major UK cities.

Reducing welfare costs is a bad first step imo, but at least it’s a step in the right direction.

Genuinely one of the most mind numbingingly stupid decisions I have ever seen.

It’s almost like German politicians are actively trying to bankrupt their entire country deliberately at this point.

Keith Stalin won’t be far behind I imagine. Sad.

Shame you have not got the balls to post your real name in here. TW@

Watching a couple of American videos on the Trump/Putin phone call and not only are they calling it a crock of **** deal that gives Ukraine nothing they are questioning why Trump and Putin discussed a hockey match between the USA and Russia.
Obviously nothing of greater importance to discuss.
Trump is so weak even Os won’t defend him this time.

Elon just saved the stranded astronauts btw
And Trump utterly failed to get his immediate peace. It will be so easy. Only I can do it. Pootin is a good guy. He has been victimised like me. Poor guy. You know we are really the best guys. If I was President he could have just had Ukraine. No killing. Isn’t that beautiful?

At least talks have started. Biden would have just continued pouring money at the problem and letting the meat grinder continue.

Worth waiting to see how things play out now, instead of being bitter just because your hero Biden is being shown up

So you admit it doesn’t look like Trump is doing all that well?

I was randomly just looking for something here, and it took me back to the pages (around the 1630 page mark) when the Russian invasion of Ukraine began. It's really interesting to see how much more rational and considered Os was with 3 years less radicalisation from Twitter, how much more nuts Ian was, and how I was still an unbearable know-it-all.

Estonia, Latvia, Poland and Lithuania have pulled out of the Ottawa Accord. This means they are preparing to use landmines in their own territory. Anyone who is uncertain how close Russia is pushing Europe to all out war need to think about what that means.

And anyone who thinks a half peace or Russia getting what it wants will help is deeply misguided.

This is catastrophic.

It does not bode well for Europe but I think this is actually what Trump wants. You do wonder where this will lead up. The Baltic states will be ceased by Russia and I can see Poland being politically weakened.

There was a lot of comment on some of the more sane media outlets like Telegraph and Guardian which made interesting reading. Countries like Canada and Germany are ditching the American arms industry and the fall out will have a massive impact on American Industry. I can see Trump selling Russia gear albeit I do not feel it woukd ever be the latest tech. Russia needs arms and American needs to sell arms. Is this too simple?
