Man we are really giving Labour a lot of **** for the state of the economy after three weeks, imagine if the Tories were held to the same standard for five minutes.
I said IF.“On Tuesday, Ms Reeves repeated the Labour manifesto commitment of no VAT, national insurance, or income tax increases, but did not rule out inheritance tax, capital gains tax, or pension reform.”
So which of those listed are going to target you? Because they disproportionately target the wealthy as it is the wealthy who pay the most in capital gains (trading in property that isn’t your primary residence or making large profits on share trading) and Inheritance tax (which impacts far fewer estates than most people believe)
Where did you get the idea that you personally would have to pay more? What article. My quote came from the BBC. And the only way of reaching your conclusion from that one is to just read the headline. Which I’m assuming wasn’t the case here and that you read something else?
Granted we don’t know if the inheritance tax changes will mean lowering the threshold, raising the rates or both. I expect both to an extent. And I have no idea what is meant by pension reform so can’t fully comment.
Who's doing that? I certainly wasn't.Man we are really giving Labour a lot of **** for the state of the economy after three weeks, imagine if the Tories were held to the same standard for five minutes.
I said IF.
I already acknowledged they wouldn't be raising income tax in the October budget. But thinking ahead to further budgets. If they're going to raise certain taxes in October then why wouldn't they raise other taxes in further budgets?
I haven't got a crystal ball. They not raise income tax down the line. But it certainly can't be ruled out. I was simply reacting to comments the Chancellor made and being rather sceptical. I'm not a Labour voter. I don't like a lot of their policies so people can jump on my views all they like, they're not going to change.
Nope. Where did I say that?So to clarify, you earn less than the national average wage and you're annoyed at the prospect of wealth taxes and don't like labour.
But you don't mind the tories who through freezing of income tax thresholds have raised taxes on working people so much it constitutes the largest tax rise in post war British history?
Right...
No, it’s not. It’s that a specific religion kills more people than others.
During the BLM riots; we were told that rioting is the voice of the unheard. That they had no way to let their emotions out. Now that White British people are rightly up in arms, out come the hollow words about how disgusting we are.
The government and police have bought this all on themselves by being completely pathetic. They have shown everyone that those who riot and kick off are the only ones that are listened to.
Also, the EDL doesn’t exist any more. So the media are lying.
They will though. That is what getting older and more experienced does. It changes us. You might drift more right or more left, or some ways left and some right. But you won't stay exactly the same.I said IF.

Unbelievably disgusting that the EDL uses the deaths of children as an excuse for a riot. Abso

This is me. I am such a hybrid mess of left and right now I am in my fifties, that I don't know which side of the fence I sit on.
Nope. Where did I say that?
Oh look Labour have said they're going to raise taxes already. That didn't take long. They won't be daft enough to raise income tax in their first budget. That will come further down the line.
Well, I pay quite enough tax thank you very much. I understand that they need to raise some taxes with the mess that the Tories left behind but they can target the wealthiest part of the population.
Like adding VAT to private school fees to fund new teachers. That's a good idea, I'll give Labour praise for that one.
But I earn less than the national average salary. If I have to pay more tax on my earnings then Labour can go **** themselves.
Ah, so you are human! This is me. I am such a hybrid mess of left and right now I am in my fifties, that I don't know which side of the fence I sit on.
Same can be said about people on here about the Tories, including way before Covid and Boris.Okay so you don't directly say it, but you are incredibly emotive about tax rises, which so far, the only prospect is on the excessively wealthy.
Your beloved tories however, have massively increased your income tax in the last 4 years and yet you don't seem annoyed at that at all.
If you are so annoyed by the potential of income tax rises, then why not be so irate when the tories do it to?
Your use of language around labour is incredibly hostile and seemingly, very tribal.
Yep, but with many heads.Ah, so you are human!

What I will say is that it is all hypothetical at the moment until the budget in October. I agree with you that the potential tax rises coming imminently will mainly affect the wealthy. The Tories really haven't massively increased my income tax either. I've been paying more tax but that's because of pay rises. But I'm better off now than I was 2/3 years ago.Okay so you don't directly say it, but you are incredibly emotive about tax rises, which so far, the only prospect is on the excessively wealthy.

Look, as long as Labour don't raise the 20% basic rate of income tax, or lower the threshold for when you pay 40%, I won't complain.
Unfortunately though income taxes have been raised by stealth. The freezing of personal allowances coupled with wage inflation means that we all pay more tax. The 40% rate used to be for the rich, now many more have stumbled into that and are worse off as a result.
Yeah, they are the people who are suffering. No one should be paying 40% on a yearly salary of £37,501.
