Perhaps another Republican should put his or her name forward to secure the GOP.nomination at their convention now that Trump is a proven felon.
They should but it won’t make a difference. They won’t give the nomination to them. There is no mechanism to do this even if he is in jail during the convention itself. It would only be a possibility if he stood down - which he will not

In fairness, as unpleasant as Trump is, this isn't purely tribal. There are quite a lot of Americans, including Biden supporters (I know some), who think these charges are politically motivated, that Trump is only being charged because he's running for President and that nobody else would be charged in the same situation. Some of them are fine with that because they hate Trump so much. Others disagree and also think the idea Trump will "destroy democracy" is silly even though they wouldn't vote for him. I fear all this undermines trust in their institutions.

It also has to be said that this isn't how the US has dealt with this sort of thing in the past. Nixon was plainly guilty of multiple crimes but was given a blanket pardon by Ford. Bill Clinton certainly deserved to face criminal charges over some of his actions but didn't, although having said that if the sexual allegations had come to light now rather than 30 years ago he might well have ended up in court. I'm sure there are other examples.

If Trump does win in November I worry he's petty enough to try and target Biden (and possibly others) through the courts and that could be the start of something very dangerous.

Trump's been in and out of court his whole life. This is nothing new. He was in court when he gained the presidency, paying off his Trump University fraud.

No doubt. I'm not interested in defending Trump as a person. I just don't think all this is as wonderful as people here seem to.

Couple of points.
These charges were being investigated and charges laid before presidential race announcements were made. In particular the fraudulent inflation of wealth case already found against Trump, his family and cohorts.

Biden has been a target for Trump and the republicans for years, attempted muck racking with no charges being brought. Bit similar to the waste of time and money that the Tory attempted smear of Angela Rayner was.
