All the fuss about Angela Rayner and £48k profit on her house and if it was her first or second home and then there are 4 Tory MPs who are refusing to say if they paid capital gains tax on profits from selling their “second” homes, with the profits totalling £5million. If I read it correctly 2 of the MPs were registered to vote at 2 houses at the same time - is that legal?

Makes as much sense as the Conservatives demanding an inquiry by the Labour party into the shocking behaviour of a then Conservative MP several years ago. Ignoring the fact they couldn't be arsed at the time.

I think it is all a bit of a mess and a hornets nest has been opened. Like I said before it isn't about the amounts, it's the principle. £1, £100,000, £1,000,000, it is all about intent.

IMO this isn't about party politics, ALL of them if they have done it should be stopped from being MPs - we need to trust our MPs.

Like I said it is not the amounts ("x is worse than y, so it is fine"), it is about intent and doing the right thing, whatever side of the political divide you stand.

The argument here is that Rayner hasn’t denied what she did, she’s stated that she obtained independent expert advice and followed that, and if it’s wrong then she’ll resign

Other cases previously have generally been hidden, denied initially and clearly fraudulent

Also the amount does have some bearing, but that isn’t the main point here

Intent, see Spidey's post. I also think scale has a part to pay.
Where appropriate criminal charges should be brought.

b. No new government can make problems magically disappear, but they can give the impression that they won’t continue to **** things up so badly and may improve things
c. He’s right though, they’ve ****ed up stuff so badly that no one knows how long it will take to turn it around, so thanks for that

EDIT: West Dorset has been identified as a vulnerable seat in the GE. Never thought that would be possible in my lifetime <cheers>

what were your results in the recent elections , if you don’t mind me asking ?

we went from Conservative to Lib Dem
 
Sunak talks sloganeering bollocks along with many of his cohorts. Labour consistently saying how difficult a situation will be left for any incoming government. It could be said the tories are pursuing a scorched earth policy. They really are an unelectable shambles of incompetence.

And to make matters worse , much as I love labour , the result at the next election will be

Labour win , but no overall majority .

Cons third

so coalition govt Lab / libdem .

yes I honestly believe this because Starmer SEEMS soulless .

And the cons have a large chunk of the press and a sizeable portion of the population are so thick / gullible , that they will just believe whatever the press put out .

More lies from Sunak and Shapps both claiming Labour have no plans for increase the defence budget, in fact the Labour party would aim to raise defence spending to 2.5% of GDP "as soon as resources allow".

I guess technically that isn’t a plan. But I’m not sure they really want to draw attention to lacking a plan since they clearly don’t have a plan for anything. I don’t think they’ve even got any legislative agenda planned for the rest of the year let alone another term. By all accounts there is no manifesto either. Nothing they are currently doing is part of any long term plan other than the Rwanda bill which doesn’t seem like it will work - or won’t appear to when boat crossings likely increase over the summer (not to mention that people coming from now aren’t even eligible to be sent).

And above all - they don’t even have a plan on when they are going to call an election. They are being entirely reactionary and waiting on “events”

The tories quote in the same article. "The Conservatives, traditionally seen as the party more likely to spend on defence, promised in March that defence spending would grow to 2.5% of GDP "as soon as economic conditions allow" It was March 1st or thereabouts Labour had committed to returning to the 2.5% level of 2010.
