The detail is important, though. I think understanding the depth of hate and depravity of the acts themselves and the determination to do it again and again, is central to the response, or should I say to trying to understand the rationale behind the response.

One just has to question the world we live in with so much hate and indoctrination on both sides and, indeed around the world in general. Looking at Argentina last night and the US polls, the world is likely going to polarise pretty brutally.

We live in interesting times. And not in a good way

Being well past my three score years and ten I've been protesting from ban the bomb onwards but see only backward steps in (in)humanity. It does me good to take the dog we're minding for a walk along the nearby canal enjoying the Autumnal colours and leaving the horrors of war behind.

Progress is not linear, it’s cyclical

Small steps to sanity. Only international cricket at the moment, but hopefully it will work its way across all forms of the sport.

Football on the other hand is dragging it's heels which is no surprise given their self righteous approach so far. Apparently it's a complex issue. It's taken teams in the 7th tier of women's football to get the FA to investigate this absurd situation. So much for promoting and encouraging women's football when a 30 year old bloke is allowed to play against teenage girls. Women and girls welfare (not to mention fairness) appears to be forgotten in order to push the FA's agenda.

I do think those who blight good honest people's lives should be jailed, yes, if only to give society a break from their offending. Have you ever lived on an estate where an individual/family makes everyone's life a ****ing misery? What happens when family members are sent down? The estate gets respite even if it is for only 6 months/a year.

Rehabilitation can work, but ultimately there are large groups of people who are just scum. You could give a million pounds to everyone, ensure their every need is met and they will still try and take from others, they'll still assault others, they'll still rape others. Have a look at the stats for interventions/programme results from HMPS. Have a look at the SOTP/CALM/TSP courses that are offered and the impact they have (square root of **** all) Some people commit crime simply because its easier than a minimum wage job. I fully believe they should be in prison.
I have some experience of HMPS rehab and it’s often poor. Plus support for released prisoners who are trying to change is often poor. It’s the programs in other countries which show success

I don’t disagree with your point completely but not all prisoners are ‘scum’ who can’t be changed. Much crime is circumstantial

As I posted before the UK has a failed system under funded and under resourced. The years of austerity have taken their toll across the board.

Had a message yesterday from my Utility supplier that as a result of the Autumn Statement my bill will go up in January, expect the worst...

I had an email from EDF trumpeting the good news that the cost of energy was going down, and another one telling me that my direct debit payment was being increased. Utter thieves imo.

I bought 2 x butane gas refills (12.5kg) today for a total of €35.40.
The equivalent price for 2 x refills in the UK, albeit for a slightly bigger bottle (15kg) would come in at £113.20 (€130).
The gas price in Spain is strongly controlled by the government, who set the price.
The UK is just a free hit for the gas companies.
The British need to learn from the French and take to the streets in protest because they are having the urine ripped from their bodies.

Energy price cap rates 1 October to 31 December 2023
Electricity rates
If you are on a standard variable tariff (default tariff) and pay for your electricity by Direct Debit, you will pay no more than 27 pence per kWh and 53 pence per day for the daily standing charge. This is based on the average across England, Scotland and Wales and includes VAT.

Gas rates
If you are on a standard variable tariff (default tariff) and pay for your gas by Direct Debit, you will pay no more than 7 pence per kWh and 30 pence per day for the daily standing charge. This is based on the average across England, Scotland and Wales and includes VAT.

We review and set a level on how much an energy supplier can charge for each unit of energy every three months.

The levels for January to March 2024 will be published end of November.

I think it's good that people have differing opinions on politics as I'm not right all the time (apart from Saints, where obviously everything I say is 100% fact) and I like hearing different views. What I do have a problem with is those in power sacrificing mine and my families safety to make themselves feel better, or demonstrate their piety knowing that there's slim to **** all chance of it affecting them.

I am thinking that cutting National Insurance will mean less income for the NHS, or doesn't it work like that?

Well it certainly doesn't mean more. The fact is, after 13 years of austerity, all public services are falling apart, and the government has no interest in fixing any of it, preferring tax cuts the impact of which will be minimal for most people.
