This is pretty shocking stuff about Eddie Dempsey of the RMT and his support for Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. I have had to re-evaluate my view of this man:

The absurdity of tankies knows no bounds. If you look at Putin's long CV and conclude that he's the true avatar of leftism, it's time to leave talking about politics to someone else.
Mike Lynch and Eddie Dempsey should focus on the day job and stop trying to be politicians.
They are doing really well when it comes to laying out the aims of the RMT and detailing decreasing quality of employment/pay against a rising cost of living.
Whenever they stray into anything outside of that frankly they seem to embarrass themselves and arguably undermine the position of their workers in their entirely justified strike action.
That’s not good for RMT members, as it is likely to be used against them by the media.
It is being claimed, in the Mirror, by an unnamed top Tory MP, that letters of no confidence could be sent in the first week, if Liz Mistrust becomes the new PM.
They hope to gain enough support to force another leadership battle by around Christmas, and they want to reinstate the arch liar himself. Sorry, I should clarify that as they have all proved themselves to be arch liars. They want Johnson back.
As I understand it the Privileges Committee can stop him returning, if they find that he did mislead Parliament over Partygate, (obviously he did as he misleads everyone over everything) which is why senior Tory legal people are trying to claim that the process is “unfair and fundamentally flawed” to prevent it happening.
“TORY MPs are plotting to ditch Liz Truss even before she gets the keys to No10, claiming she is the WORST person for the job.
Around a dozen Boris Johnson supporters are conspiring to trigger yet another Tory leadership contest in a bid to bring him back.
As removals men yesterday continued to load up the PM’s possessions, one top Tory said: “MPs are ready to put letters of no confidence in as early as this week. Liz Truss is not very bright, has poor judgment, little empathy with people and sees everything in money terms. In the worst of times she’s the worst possible choice for PM.”
But the rebellion was branded insane by other Tories. One said: “This is madness. The country won’t wear 160,000 Conservative members choosing another PM, especially a retread. We’ll end up with a general election.”
The ding-dong continued as a source close to the conspiracy countered: “That’s fine by us. Our only chance of winning one is with Boris at the helm.”
The plotters are keeping their identities and communications secret because if they were unmasked they would lose the Tory whip and could not vote in the leadership challenge they are trying to arrange.”

I was not aware of the Anti- Truss plot within the Tory party but I think that this is not just being reported within the Mirror and other media outlets appear to be corroborating the same story. Nicola Sturgeon is now joining the fracas and reinforced the perception that Liz Truss will not be up to the job. I think that the agenda is being set for the news stories over the next few months insofar that there will be no honeymoon period for Truss and that she will immediately be plunged in to a crisis. The resentment from within the Tory party is a surprise as I had expected the criticism to have more more vocal within the more left-of-centre parties. The news story we will hear so much about up until Christmas has started and I think that Truss will get abuse from all quarters. She is cleatly not up to the task and I would envisage criticism to now come from all quarters. The die has been cast and I really feel that there is going to be momentum building up to get her removed before Christmas.
I find the protagonists for Boris are totally missing the point. Granted Boris' has an appeal within the electorate and a reputation as someone "who gets things done." However, if these protagonists are "pro-democracy" they need to hold their fire until Boris has been exonerated after any enquiry into Covid as well as the fall out from any nvestigations in to privileges and abuses. A few more skeletons are likely to come out including a potential sexual haressment case against a Cabinet minister. I just cannot see how Johnson can be allowed to hold any office with responsibiity in the future. Partygate will prove to be the least of his worries.
It is an interesting time and one where I think democracy is being challenged. Just like Trump, there should be no way back for Boris and any investigations need to be comprehensive and thorough. Regardless of anyone's politics, the issues within the previous Conservative administration from the attempted proroging of parliament through to the owen Pattison scandal need to be considered. There is a need to hold this government to account in the way Blair whould have been with Iraq. I would advocate custodial sentences too if crimes are found to have been committed.
I believe that the removal of a Prime Mimister from office should precipitate a General Election and a political party of 160,000 members should be prevented from dictated who becomes Prime Mimister. This should work for all parties. As far as Liz Truss is concerned, I had initially thought she would last 6 months. I am not convinced that a cost of living crisis and impending industrial action which as widespread public support will be matters she can overcome. Liz Truss will be overtaken by circumstances and I remain convinced we will see a furher vote of confidence this side of Christmas which will ultimately shoo in a general election.
If the Boris administration has demonstrated anything, it is just how paraless our deomocracy is. Brexit proved for the first time just how democracy can gets things wrong. I am wondering if the "post-truth" age has effectively meant that democracy can no longer properly function. I thought that Blair's use of spin was, perhaps, a dangerous precedent but no one could have suspected in 1997 it would have led to the state of affairs where a politician like Boris Johnson is possible. By the same token, have we ever had any politician as ill-equipped as Liz Truth to front this country? No one is expecting her tenure to be anything less than a disaster.
I have said before that the government who ultimately replaced Liz Truss's needs to make some brave decisions. The Conservative party as it now stands is an utter disgrace and not fit to either run the country or be HM opposition. It's usefulness has been exhausted and I believe that the fact that they play so fast and loose with people's prospects and even jeopardises their lives means that it must be proscribed. In electing Boris and then Truss, it is obvious that the Conservative members are very dangerous people indeed, whether or not they are actually aware of the menacethey cause to British society . I believe that a reaponsible right wing has a right to a political voice but , in the current circumstances, it cannot be the Conservatives. When Parliament returns, there needs to be a concerted attempt to get this government out of office and, if this requires assistance from industrial action, Starmer needs to call the shots so that this process can be put in hand. The British media is expressing reservations about the suitability of LizTruss to hold the office of PM and the agenda needs to be made in Parliament amongst the opposition parties that the new government needs to be taken down as swiftly as possible.

I was shocked to read this although, in fairness, Mick Lynch has made some salient points regarding the fact that there are some very unsavory elements within the Ukranian forces. I fully support Ukraine and there is no way that Putin can be considered as anything other than the aggressor. However by the same token, I am wondering if some of the views expressed by the likes of those within the Azov units would be ones people in the west would be willing to share.
It is a shame that twitter has given such a voice to the uneducated and marginal views not rooted in reality, Hopefully the union members will see fit to deselect anyone advocating the legitimacy of Vladimir Putin to commit war crimes from within their ranks.
Dempsey is a major figure in the Enough is Enough movement, which among other things is seeking to discredit Keir Starmer as Labour Leader. When someone like that is found to have direct links to Putin it makes you wonder.
In any war, you’re going to find yourself gritting your teeth and siding with certain unsavoury elements you wouldn’t necessarily pass the time with, under normal circumstances. Say…for instance…like Stalin in WWII.
It’s a case of the lesser of two evils, and in this instance, the distinction is as clear as day.
That’s one way of looking at it. Another is to say that war itself is the greatest evil, and we should be extremely careful about picking sides and arming and funding participants in foreign wars.
Of course we should. But to turn a blind eye in this instance would be a reckless dereliction of duty.
