A very interesting development at Fox News in the USA. This directly affects how reporting is done in an extreme right-wing scenario, and people might reflect on the independent BBC News in the UK. Being advert free and financed by everyone, including the poorest, who have a TV, they can hold an incumbant government to account, and have done. Which means that all the terrestrial commercial channels can do the same, should they want to. Because in the US, this is happening - Fox News just lost one of its prime presenters, one Shepard Smith, who was possibly the most critical of Trump. Well he quit, or so he said on his last broadcast. This is just a few days after Trump publicly criticised his favourite network for not presenting him in a better light, amongst other things, like criticising Fox News poll results that don't put him in front, when the reality is that he is super unpopular. That's shades of Fascism, right there.

Being 58, and having lived in London for pretty much my entire adult life, sometimes in idle moments I think about retiring somewhere green and pleasant. Then I remember that the green and pleasant bits of England are full of ****ing Tories, and I thank the Lord I live in the London Borough of Haringey.

My MP is a tory called Ross Thomson - no thanks to me, of course. A tory party investigation into accusations of him groping men in a bar at the House of Commons has yet to conclude.

I can't help how you feel about the people you have described in your post, but as one of 'them' in the community of a green and very pleasant part of England I would say this, it's always dangerous to generalise about those with whom you cannot agree with or see how they live, except if these views are recieved through the pre-conceived and often mis-guided parts of the social media in particular. So should you ever wish to visit and see how 'we' live and work and carry out our community support in so many ways, I'd always be pleased to give you a welcome and tour so to speak. Perhaps then I might understand more about your obvous hate of people like me and those amongst whom I live, (not all of of a creed which you described).

What I can also say is this, when in SMS yelling our team on, I'll try not to be thinking that as 'one of them' that I should be somewhere else, as being one of the very few people of the centre right on this board, it often feels that perhaps I'm an univited guest at a more left wing love-in, and wondered if SFC would, in fact, prefer all their supporters to be of a certain type. To date I haven't felt that from fellow supporters. Long may it continue!

Fair comment, however you may in your last comments giving your own sweeping generalisations. I think there’s many here who are not left wing, yet Brexit has clouded that some what.

I think you may have taken my tongue in cheek comments a bit too seriously. I don’t hate anyone, not even Boris Johnson or Dominic Cummings. I have met lots of ostensibly nice people with views I consider incomprehensible.

I’d still miss London if I left though. Quite possibly the most tolerant city in the world. Even had Boris Johnson as mayor once, though that was in his previous incarnation as a “one nation” Conservative.

He was my MP until the boundaries were changed, and I can't remember when it was that I was affected by it. Anyway, that was the last day I felt properly represented by my MP. Even when I lived in Kent in the 1990s it was wall-to-wall Damian Green.

I'm not sure on your point here. You actually seem to be agreeing with me. My point was - everyone speaks English. And now you're arguing that everyone speaks English. Confusing.

How many Americans do you know that speak Chinese though? How many Chinese movies have you watched this year? What's your favourite Chinese TV show? Which Chinese celebs do you follow on Twitter? (Oh, wait, Twitter's not allowed is it)

Of course I know there are a lot of people keeping an eye on what is being said in China, but it is a near-impossible job. Very big country and all that. And also, if something disagreeable is discovered, then what? The state-owned media are going to apologise? Correct themselves? Guess again.

And I can't believe you are using the South Morning China Post to back up your 'argument'. It used to be a respectable news source, going back a few years, but these days it is utter garbage. It's yet another mouthpiece for the Chinese government. Worse in fact, because it is cleverly disguised with a few supposedly anti-Beijing stories just so the unknowing outsider laps up what they say. Trust me, SCMP is very much pro-Beijing.

And you seriously think no one is calling Trump a dick in China? Tee-hee, of course they are. But, you wouldn't know. Nor would most people. You don't speak Chinese after all. Do you use Weibo? Youku? WeChat? QQ? Probably not.

Some of the things I've seen on Chinese TV, had it been in the UK/US, the broadcasting company would have probably got shut down lol. Trust me they get away with it in China because who is policing the state-owned TV companies? Again, no one.

I will not mention Trump again. I'll admit I don't pay much attention to American politics so you will undoubtedly know more than me. I'm cool with that.

But look on the bright side; he's only gonna be your president for another year. The American people wouldn't possibly vote him in again would they?

And no, of course not everyone who supports him is racist. Just like not everyone who wants Brexit is racist. Foolish, deluded, ignorant, yes. But racist no.

Yes, that’s my point. It’s Chinese propaganda widely available IN ENGLISH for international readers. So it’s not like China is sneaking around badmouthing the US behind their backs and taking advantage of the language barrier. They are badmouthing Trump in English, for everyone to understand. And spreading pro-Beijing propaganda that isn’t working at all.

Jolyon Maugham QC, who was one of the barristers who successfully brought the prorogation case to the Scottish Court of Session, argues that even if a deal is agreed with the EU, and it is voted through the Commons, we will leave with no deal on 31st October, because there simply isn’t time to pass all the plethora of accompanying legislation through both Houses of Parliament. The flaw in the Benn Act is that there is no obligation on Johnson to ask for an extension if a deal is agreed:

Which then leaves us in the scary situation where parliament would have to vote against pretty much ANY deal and force an extension request from Johnson, just in case the above doesn't happen.
There's also nothing stopping Johnson from getting a deal agreed and just tearing it up later down the line.

So, has Johnson made some unexpected concessions in order to get the EU to accept the deal, with the expectation that the Commons will reject it, giving him the moral high ground?
