Rescind article 50, then reinstate article 50. Two years negotiating time gained. (Better yet, do the first step forget the second step) Also, impose sanctions on the ERG such as "keep all your money in this country rather than moving off-shore, Mr Rees-Mogg. That way all you f*ckwits go down with the rest of us and don't create an artificial disaster where you can buy assets on the cheap and impose restrictions on the working man, you greedy little a**holes." (a.k.a. the "put your money where your mouth is" argument.)
With dignity? From here in the Netherlands there's nothing in this shambles that faintly resembles dignity.
No disagreement. But if the May government starts trying to maneuver around paying, or having European elections, after having to beg for an extension, it'll be all the more pathetic.
Agree on every count, especially regarding the loathsome Rees-Mogg, who should be facing criminal charges for hosting meets of the Mendip Farmers Hunt at his West Harptree mansion, who regularly hunt and kill foxes illegally. The whole tragicomic nature of today’s goings-on in Parliament were so predictable. When the government supported the Brady Amendment and promised to seek “alternative arrangements” to the backstop, it was obvious that they would fail. All that has been gained is a means of opting out of the backstop if something happens which even the most diehard ERG zealots never envisage happening, namely the EU deliberately trying to **** up the transitional arrangements. The deal will be voted down again tonight, which any responsible PM would take as a sign to call an election. Of course they won’t, but what will happen next? The upcoming EU Parliament elections are key, in that if we don’t elect MEP’s in May, how can we remain in the EU afterwards? So extending Article 50, as has been said, won’t give us time to have a referendum, a General Election, or doing anything to avoid a Crash Brexit when the extension expires. The only practical solution is now, as Jabie says, to revoke Article 50 completely. We can always invoke it again if the referendum goes that way, as long as we have agreed a cross-party approach to negotiation on a new deal before we do so.
What if on Wednesday night she jettisons Article 50 in its entirety, the EU agrees and she tenders her resignation the following day? This would be a wonderful outcome and I just hope the Conservative party can rip itself in two - so the ERG go off and form a new political party, while the rest of the Conservatives can get their senses together and rejoin the normal Conservative forces {the CDs, Forza Italia et al} that have shaped our great continent.
May, in Parliament: "Let us prove beyond all doubt that we believe democracy comes before party, faction or personal ambition." HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Vin
Believe it or not, we can revoke Article 50 entirely unilaterally, we don’t need the EU’s agreement to stay in the EU.
"She" can't, has to be parliament hoping against hope they would do just that. It's been to much of "my deal" "I have negotiated" "me, me and me" as though she was the only person involved in these talks. Any (if there are) future discussions have to be by cross party committee plus any external expertise as required with open reporting to parliament and final decision by a new referendum if Westminster hasn't got the balls for it.
Laugh, I nearly ****, haven't had so much fun since Grandma squashed her tits through the mangle (or similar) Jab
The only "cross-party" negotiations she has had are with the DUP and ERG. Hopefully, she screws her own party up by rescinding Article 50 and resigning.
Theresa May has just said that if the House doesn't vote for her plan she will attend tomorrows no-deal vote in a bikini and no she won't shave! Her hubby went a strange shade of grey and has been helped from the public gallery by 2 medics. Labour have convened an emergency meeting and may be changing their vote. The DUP said bring it on!
