Have seen Liz Truss and Therese Coffey paying tribute to a 'compassionate' and 'class act' politician, in Amber Rudd.

What ****ing planet are these people on? Jesus ****ing Christ.

Westminster planet along with all the others. Its like on the news when someone dies. According to all the people they interview they were a lovely person, never had a bad word to say and always had a smile on their face. I'm still waiting for one of these miserable moaning b'stards that seem to be everywhere to die. I think they must be immortal though.

Time for Mrs May to have a cabinet reshuffle, and bring in someone from the other side of politics, someone who has more visión and clarity than her entire cabinet. Sack the beyond useless Boris Johnson and have a person of stature in the foreign office, Peter Mandelson. And then go back to the Lords and find a cross-bencher to do the Home Secretary´s job.

You are in love with the "angel" Mandelson. Much as he was a superb politician he was not in it for the people and had very deep pockets............that he continuously filled up (and continues to do so to protect his mahoosive EU pension.)

I don't read stuff on politics. Politics is about the here and now not the past. If you want to read about politics you read things that are relatively current or are affecting the current.

And I would agree about class struggle but then nothing has changed there. Race and other parts are utilised quite often in terms of class struggle arguments and the Windrush thingamy is pretty much all about class rather than race. I would bet the vast majority of those caught up in this scandal were poorer folks that didn;t know they had to do anything whereas those with a bit more money "had their houses in order."

A study of the past sheds an awful lot of light on the present Ides. If you know your history, you know how we got to where we are; and you will also see that nothing is new. There are precedents to every political situation we currently face or are ever likely to face, and there are lessons to be learned from the past. Indeed if we don't learn from past mistakes, we may be destined to repeat them; as we are right now repeating many of the mistakes of the thirties.

And yes, of course it was the poorer immigrants targeted and persecuted by the HO; the rich are nearly always one step ahead of the system.

Owen Jones earns a lot of money from speaking on behalf of the down trodden. He'll bring out another book soon. This time will the working class be poor people that are hard done by or idiots that have been led to vote leave? One day he will make his mind up.............while counting his (not) capitalist hoard of cash.
Socialist earns more than a shilling scandal.... Read all about it.. Come on Imps, I might not agree with your politics but I usually appreciate your argument... You can do better .

Yup,couldnt agree more. i was about to post something similar, but you've done it as well as i could, so i'll just post the good old quote :

“If you do not know where you come from, then you don't know where you are, and if you don't know where you are, then you don't know where you're going. And if you don't know where you're going, you're probably going wrong.”

Agree 100%. As Winston Churchill once famously said: “Study history, study history. In history lies all the secrets of statecraft.”

Anyone familiar with my posts will know I am very interested in history. I am not talking about that. I am talking about political ideals equated to modern politics. Some of course is applicable but a vast amount of what happened 20-30 years ago has no bearing on how the current political ideals or policies are.

The whole windrush thing is one example where it actually does because EVERY government since the "paperwork" law was changed in the 70s? should have made sure that everybody (not just the well connected ones) knew and were helped to get their paperwork in order. As much as this government has ignored warning that this would happen, past governments have failed in equal measure by leaving it hanging as they did.

What I meant r.e. current and related to current is very different from a generalised "history." Lessons learned from mistakes? Not sure anyone in their right mind actually believes that. Governments still try to spin the same old knowing it has been found out before..............and radical socialists still hang on to the socialist dream despite the 70s failings. Strange people talk about lessons being learned in relation to politics. If that were true we might be in a very different place now.

He is a tosser of the highest order that sells to the highest bidder. He is for something when it suits and then against it when it suits. I can't remember if he is pro or anti-Corbyn this week. One of the most annoying of the serial interrupting faux outraged "go to" people that constantly invades our screens.

There you go. I did better ;)

I'm guessing you've not notice the current trend of everyone and their mum comparing the other party to nazis or the current anti Semite scandal etc.

Due to the current era of populism and information technology people are able to find historical data to support whatever hair brained idea they want but that doesn't stop history from being any less relevant if properly researched and it still carries a big impact.

Humans themselves haven't changed in 1000's of years and still react the same confrontational way to resources running out etc. A lot you can learn.
