Do you not think British ex pats are a reasonable comparison? I responded to all your points, no mention of you, and you immediately respond by ignoring my points and going for my apparent attitude. Childish.

Going back to the actual debate, almost 50% of the population believes (according to recent surveys) that the majority of immigrants are small boat migrants. The truth is 4% are.

So they are wrong. Flat wrong. I am going to be that guy who says people who are wrong are wrong.

I do not remotely think Farage will be PM but i believe he can become leader of the opppsition against a coalition governnent. However, i think he will be undone by the media . Given the actions in Nottingham and the threats to The Independent, the media will go for him ahead of the next election.

For what is worth, i really feel it will end very badly for Farage. I think a political scandal is inevidible but i feel his demise will be spectacular.

He has been in the US trying to get them to put tariffs on us. He is far from a patriot.

I have said for a long time that it isn't Farage that frightens me but the people who are gullible enough to believe his poison it is they who will dangerously empower him.

Brexit should have been the point they learnt you can't just ignore things because you think your "side" of the argument is "on the right side of history." We are nearly 10 years on from that. Trump came after Brexit. We got the signal earlier than Trump getting in.

Nearly 10 years on and the (supposedly) left are pushing for even more authoritarianism to censor dissent from their chosen viewpoints. To save democracy they advocate banning certain choices that threaten the status quo....

.......and then the hilarious projection above (projecting much) post that if reform get in they will do.........what the status quo actually wants to do and is already doing in many cases atm.

You are right but they won't listen. fingers in ears, hands over eyes.....not over mouths though. They are letting Farage just walk in straight through the middle puerly because no-one will compromise on anything and they cling to technocratic rule so they can bypass democracy entirely. They long for the EU to be in charge of everything voted in by no-one with a worthless parliament that just gets to comment on policies approved from the top.

The left in this country, like in the US, just get crazier and crazier rather than realising why they are losing votes and let people they call crazy railroad right through with no opposition because they think name calling and old arguments will "eventually sink in."

And no I am not a Farage or Reform voter. I'm just not blind!

After the next election I can see Labour suffering the same as the Tories and Corbyn's lot or something new smashing them up too.

p.s. Disgruntled Labour commentariat very vocal today about leaks from their own side being fed to the "rabid right wing press" (they said that, I'm not putting rabid in because of Jabbo.)

The Labour machine's internal warfare that was simmering from pretty much near the start will tear them apart in short order me thinks.

I said similar last summer. Very little middle ground exists on either side (largely thanks to social media imo) but this rush to brand anyone with concerns around immigration as a thick racist just exacerbates the problem.

There are plenty of non far right people with these concerns but the more they are dismissed as such the more likely they are to actually become so imo.

People who think that nobody is listening to them will eventually turn to someone who claims to be doing so and end up buying all their snake oil.

But this has all been going on at the very least since Trump/Brexit and I don't see it getting better any time soon.

His followers will quickly turn against him.

I am confident that he will face a campaign from his constituents to get him removed before the next election too.

Not going to happen in a million years. Hardly anybody in this country cares about local issues.

How often are local politics discussed on here for example?

I am sure that the Labour and Liberal voters in his constituency will feel different.

I was working in Sainburys Bitterne at the time and given everything I was hearing from co-workers and customers it was absolutely no shock to me that Brexit won through, even though I am a severe rejoiner and if I was PM I would have us unilaterally rejoin, not faffing about with a referendum on it.

Although if it wasn't for that twunt Cameron making himself the 'face' of Remain I don't think it would have passed, he turned it into a protest vote against his government, definitely accounted for enough of the vote to get it over the line.

I am the son of two immigrants and think there is a huge issue with immigration that needs to be addressed. I’m not far right either!

We all need to take our fingers out of our ears and stop saying “la la la farage, la la la not happening” and realise if we ignore it, it will. History is full of the masses being duped by undesirables

There is literally nothing that anyone can do to argue against this without being branded condescending. 96% of migration is normal migration through legal routes. People wouldn’t care if they were feeling richer, but the Tories had one job for 14 years: reboot the economy after the crash. They failed spectacularly through awfully implemented spending cuts that weakened the economy and gutted public services. That we are inundated with front pages about immigration when it is the ideological attack on the British working class the Tories have served up tells you all you need to know. It is a shout loudest world and truth is now meaningless.

Explain how you address people’s concerns with immigration when people are flat wrong about what immigration is?

So what is the issue? What are the numbers? How is it fixed?

The issue is that we let in and take far too long to process far too many people. We then are seen to house them for free in hotels and this plays into the hands of the far right. People are disenfranchised and need a scapegoat. Non EU ( Basically non white) immigration is that scapegoat as they are easily identifiable.

If there was a solution then it would have been in place - I have no solution, and nor should I have one, as I cannot change anything. Whatever government in charge has to address it.

Are we soft on immigration? Maybe. Is the solution to paint roundabouts and gather outside hotels? No.

But we can’t keep on ignoring it just because Farage is shouting the loudest.

Edit: And to say there is a problem with immigration doesn’t make you racist. The problem is that as it is being stoked up by the far right, people ignore the underlying issue.

My point is that most people cannot understand there are any subtleties to this. They do not want to know - and I mean they really don’t want to hear - that we have become reliant on immigration for so many aspects of life. They have been led by the nose to fervently blame soft immigration for their own social ills.

I agree, but ignoring the fact that people are wrong won’t fix it. You need to address it and change the narrative. We are sleepwalking into a reform government.

The people with money like this narrative. They don’t publish the truth. The messaging is clear: we are being invaded. I have heard ordinary people saying it.
