We shall see. My impression of Starmer is that he is fiscally a conservative. Cutting spending only leads to curbing economic growth. Time to start spending our way out of this.

This is one area where we are politically different. I really think that the country is economically a mess and Labour do not need to revert to type and try to spend their way out of it. With the state of our finances (yes, because of Tory rule), this could be suicide.

A happy medium is needed I feel. Make spending more efficient, whilst keeping taxes where they are to encourage growth.

You are also right I feel that Starmer is pretty conservative when it comes to finances and so far all the measures he has brought in, it wouldn't have surprised me if the Tories had done this - moreover, if they had, Starmer would have been at them!

I don't disagree, in principle. But don’t forget this government has already committed to significant investment in housebuilding, green energy, and the NHS. Personally I'd like to see a bit more Keynesian economics, but Reeves and Starmer do seem determined to prove their commitment to fiscal responsibility.

I actually think Starmer is a lot more radical than Blair, but these are far more challenging circumstances than Blair's government had to face. So I'm withholding judgement for now.

I don’t disagree with either of you particularly. I don’t like going after the disabled as a policy or that Labour had to run on a no tax rise platform. However, unlike some disingenuous people, I do recognise that the Conservatives left a financial mess and had no plans for paying needed QOL pay rises to the public sector.

On the other hand, I would like to see serious investment and bold moves economically.

I wonder if Karoline Leavitt believes the dumb stuff she comes out with. I would have been embarrassed delivering that message which put me in mind of Comical Ali from the first Iraq war. It was staggeringly stupid and the attack on the journalist was absurd.

I wish Channel Four would send Mark Thomas out there to the press conferences. It doesn't help that she looks like Barbie. I have never seen a spokesman from a Western country appear to be such an idiot. What kind of message does having this spokeaman say to women of the world ?

I am disappointed with Starmer and voted Green in the last election because he has moved Labour so far to thr Right.

I was thinking how different the world coukd have been had Corbyn and Sturgeon been elected in 2016 and allowed a second independance vote respectively. I loved the fact that more radical parties had such traction back then. Shame that all the gains were squandered post Covid.

She’s not talking to you or I though, Ian. She’s talking to their base, and reinforcing the message that ‘the media’ can’t be trusted. It’s sad, dangerous and slightly scary. They will lap it up, even though it’s based on nothing, and is clearly lies.

If the journalist who shouldn’t have been in the chat group is such a well known anti Trump Democrat, why was he asked to join the chat? Could the guilty party be a complete dick head? Other insults are available. The Trump administration is giving ‘Banana Republic’ a new level of meaning.

250k people dragged into poverty, including 50k children

Labour have found a way to not only raise taxes, but to then completely shaft the poor, old and vulnerable at the same time

Quite staggering levels of evil & incompetence

Elon Musk has paid $100 dollars to everyone signing a petition against ‘liberal’ judges. Now he has also paid out a $1million lottery prize for people signing the petition. This is a criminal activity- why are ICE not throwing him in the back of a van?

My worry as with the last Trump administration is that they are normalising bad and corrupt behaviour.

That is truly awful if true, what do you suggest that we (you and I) do to help these poor people, where are they located?
