Lol exactly. Can be seen at least 2 ways. 1. UK growth **** under Tories, until they realise an election is coming and do short term gain for long term pain to raise growth before election. Labour come in and reverse this and back to true state of economy. 2. Tories take us through the hard times and then finally when there are green shoots or recovery, Labour come in and screw it up. I am going for a mixture of the two. But then I am not so knee jerk as some. Or as sensational. Or, it could be that in Q3, politicians stopped bench pressing and lowered their testosterone levels to an unacceptable level EDIT: It could also be all the migrants that came in in Q3, raped our kids and women and curtailed growth. EDIT2: Or it could be that we need Elon Musk to help us as he is a truly great man, in fact one of the greats.
It's the gotcha politics that do my head in. If the graph says something, have the intellect and courage to explain that to people. If you want to make a vague point and run away, then yeah, do this. I would suggest 1 is very likely the choice, but there are definitely parts of 2. That said, the clearest thing on that graph is that growth is the exception and not the rule. We are not in a strong economic spot, and it will take time and some ambitious plans to get us out of it. I don't usually jump on the EU bandwagon, but since the Tories left, the apparent embargo on negative news around our exit seems to waning. The top financial minds in the country seem to want us to get as far back in as we can. Of course. Os will know better. Bank of England boss says UK must 'rebuild relations' after Brexit - BBC News
Funny isn’t it, that we all see from our own perspective. I see the EU as a capitalist trading block!
Retired and living in the Netherlands I see the EU as a playground with seamless travel unhindered by queues at immigration.
I don't actually think it's a bad idea, but it does make me chuckle that the Department of Government Efficiency needs two people to head it up.
I'm very much on the EU bandwagon believing brexit was national self harm. Not just from the economic view but socially and culturally to. The loss of freedom of movement, the right to live and work plus leaving the Eurasmus program is a disproportional blow to the under 30s. Starmer has ruled out a youth mobility scheme which would make it easier for EU citizens aged 18 to 30 to study and work in the UK for a limited period, with young Britons allowed to do the same in Europe in return. This has been proposed by the EU and is seen as a stumbling block to a closer relationship easing trade restrictions. "We do not have plans for a youth mobility scheme but do have plans for closer relationship between us and the EU." Said Starmer speaking at a joint news conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Berlin, after the pair began talks on a new co-operation agreement between the two nations. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cvg3pxz4334o

The UK will now head into a recession & mass unemployment is happening and will continue to rise. Mortgage rates are going up & GBP has crashed. (Bond yields rocketed) This budget is worse than Liz Truss’s, it’s just the ramifications are going to take a while to play out.
That's one of the funniest things you've written, Os. They may not be getting paid a salary, but there'll be nothing 'free' about it. Plus you're missing the point of my post.
He is terrified of anything that looks like opening borders. We have made the movement of people a danger to our sovereignty - but Europe is our closest cultural connection and should be where our borders are most open.
Get over Brexit. It was ages ago. It was a really good opportunity to push Britain forward, but it is being squandered by people like you with no ambition
No such thing as a free lunch. I'm sure you, being a self proclaimed intellectual superpower, are aware of the massive benefits Musk is about to accrue. "Nov 6 (Reuters) - Elon Musk’s backing of Donald Trump’s decisive victory for a second presidency gives the billionaire entrepreneur extraordinary influence to help his companies secure favourable government treatment. Musk contributed at least $119 million to a pro-Trump spending group, federal records show, and tirelessly touted the former president at the critical late stage of his campaign. Musk's politicking reflects a wider strategy to insulate his companies from regulation or enforcement and boost their government support, according to Reuters interviews with six Musk-company sources familiar with his political and business dealings and two government officials who have extensive interactions with Musk firms. The sources provided a rare view of the strategizing inside Musk's firms to take full advantage of his deepening relationship with Trump. Musk's business interests - from Tesla electric vehicles to SpaceX rockets and Neuralink brain chips - depend heavily on government regulation, subsidies or policy. “Elon Musk sees all regulations as getting in the way of his businesses and innovation,” said one former top SpaceX official who spoke on condition of anonymity. “He sees the Trump administration as the vehicle for getting rid of as many regulations as he can, so he can do whatever he wants, as fast as he wants.” More at https://www.reuters.com/markets/us/how-musks-clout-with-trump-could-enrich-his-companies-2024-11-06/
