So the Chancellor admits she lied, Labour lied during the election.

They will point to this black hole, but this is bollocks, they raised taxes £40bn.

Loading, archers, jabbo and chilco will never admit they’ve been lied too.

They’re in a left wing cult. They would rather throw insults than accept that they’ve been completely duped.

I honestly think you have to be extremely low IQ to vote for labour. The fact you could be fooled into believing there is a “22bn black hole” just because they keep saying it shows that you are either extremely thick - or at the least extremely gullible.

They conveniently will forget the 3-400bn wasted on covid lockdowns - which the left absolutely creamed themselves over.

Don't disagree, although to be fair to Archers, he didn't necessarily say he didn't think they lied about what in posted today.

And like I said, this may work outside, may not. Bet let's not pretend she was honest about it.

It may have been the right thing to raise taxes, I'm not smart enough to know.

It’s just the paying of taxes I have an issue with. It’s how the taxes are spent. Of course some (low) tax seems sensible if we want a safe and secure society.

It’s that they can find billions for public sector pay rises, foreign 'climate aid' and the upkeep of illegal migrants, but supporting British farmers is the 'unaffordable' choice apparently.

Hundreds of billions to waste on ****e. Until they be fiscally responsible, taxes should be cut as much as possible.

At the moment, the best analogy I can think of is that the government is a heroin addict, and the taxpayers are an unlimited credit card. At a certain point you have to cut off the funding and sort out the addiction issue

I didn’t know until listening to a discussion on LBC that taxing education is against the law in EU countries.
So if any right wing media outlets, who supported Brexit, are upset about VAT being charged on private schools they need to explain to their followers that they are largely responsible for it.
Same for the Tory party. If they hadn’t forced Brexit on the country then Labour would not have been able to tax private education.

THE Tories may have changed leader but they haven’t changed their ways.

Kemi Badenoch yesterday said the Partygate scandal was “overblown”, and she wouldn’t apologise for Liz Truss’s disastrous spell as PM.

It is also telling that she will order her MPs to vote against the extra investment in schools and hospitals.

Ms Badenoch clearly has no understanding of the public anger over Partygate and is in denial about the need to rebuild public services after 14 years of the Tories.

And on another topic, those who are anti union (especially the older people) will be in a quandary when they realise that UNITE union has given the government until Thursday to reverse the Winter Fuel decision or face legal action.

We’ve been dealing with both the short and long term consequences of laissez-faire capitalism since Margaret Thatcher ripped up the postwar social contract in 1979. The verdict is irrefutable - 45 years of growing wealth inequality and declining public services has left our children worse off than their grandparents, and all of us more angry, isolated and afraid than we were before. Time to throw that tired old unregulated free market model, and the myths it’s predicated on, in the bin for good.

Wouldn’t have been able to renationalise the railways either, if we were still in the EU. And Great British Energy might have been a non starter too. Funny old world indeed, if the left wing case for Brexit finally gets vindicated.

I don't know if that's true re the railways with many companies being state owned. In the Netherlands NS (Nederlandse Spoorwegen) is a public limited company. The Dutch state is the sole shareholder. SNCF is wholly owned by the French state. Same in Germany the DB is state owned.

It's to nice a day to stay in and do more research, brisk walk next followed by a beer or two on the terrace, but I think many of the EU 27 have state owned energy companies such as EDF in France. I haven't found anything that prohibits an energy company start up by the state.

Food prices to rise again following the disaster budget.

Who could possibly have seen this coming? Raising taxes means price rises?

I am shocked. Absolutely shocked I tell you.

I am a fairly right of centre person and I am still taking the suck it and see approach to the budget and other Labour policies for the next few months. As someone who actually pays more than the national average wage in tax each year, more rises do actually hurt me, but I am willing to give it a year or so to see if the short term pain will give me long term gain.

Looking at it rationally, I cannot see any other way really of trying to get the public services back on track and reducing debt. We could try spend our way out of it, but things are different this time - we have never come off the back of a global pandemic, a Ukraine war, and a good few years of financial chaos.

It does go against every rational feeling I have though, but maybe a different approach may work this time.

I believe that a party should be worried if they are popular in the first year or so of a new term as it means they aren't making the choices to try to fix any issues. It is where they are in 2-3 years that really says a lot more about them.

See, I would go further and not really blame the last government for the late 2020 - now rise. Look at inflation globally and it was there. A Pandemic and the Russian invasion caused that. No G7 country was immune to it, whether they had a right wing or left wing government in charge.

Could it have been dealt with better? Perhaps, but guessing and hindsight get us nowhere.

Not sure all those were necessary.

And they are raising fees on Uni's too. All that after KS pledged in 2020 when pitching to become leader that he would scrap Uni fees altogether.

I guess he may have been wrong, made a mistake about that.

This is all very complicated so none of us would want to reduce it down to gotchas. Just need to repeat what I said about a government that can change its mind being the very best kind - and this is not a simple situation.

First of all, you obviously have no connection to the public sector. The public sector is about to break. People are leaving in their droves - good people with experience - and new people are not hanging around long either. Why would anyone take a real world pay cut 14 years in a row and accept that was going to continue. By defunding our services, the government has actively made them worse. Teaching standards are declining. Police are buried in red tape - and don't have the manpower to get out and work. Sickness is at a ridiculous rate - and I know that hides staff shortages in key areas. Nurses and doctors would have continued to strike and eventually go abroad.

Overseas aid is a national commitment. No government is going to drop it unless they want to be isolationists. That doesn't normally work well.

"Green things" are an opportunity to grow the economy. Any plan that involves creating work here and taking away our dependence on external powers is a good thing. We have a windy nation surrounded by water. After recent high winds some plank on BBC HYS wrote: "They turned off the turbines during these high winds! Shows you how pathetic green energy is." The fact is the green energy was so efficient it filled up all the power storage - and we desperately need to invest in that area. We will all be better off when that happens.

The University sector is struggling. A lot of unis are going to go bankrupt in the next few years if things don't change. Almost worse, the ones doing well are becoming focused on educating students from abroad for the higher fees. We have to fix it - and if people don't want to pay higher taxes it will have to be higher fees. I personally would pay more in my taxes - but anyone who doesn't want taxes to go up will have to accept higher fees.
