The Trump-appointed special prosecutor in the Hunter Biden corruption case has indicted someone! And it's...the guy who formed the basis for the whole investigation, who the FBI had used as a confidential informant to try to investigate the Bidens, only to discover that he was a serial fabulist who kept telling obvious and easily-disproven lies. And is now being prosecuted for it, because it turns out that telling a whole lot of lies to the FBI is a crime. https://www.justice.gov/sco-weiss/media/1338741/dl?inline=&utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery So just so that we're clear: the suggestion that Biden took bribes came from a source who is so much of a liar that the Trump FBI gave up on him (they ended their investigation in 2020, after concluding there was no substance to his allegations), and now the guy Trump appointed to go after the Bidens is indicting the informant instead. One of the funnier parts in the indictment: it actually lists all of the times that the FBI noted pleading with him to tell the truth...at least 20 occasions. It also notes that there were likely many more instances where the FBI did so, they just didn't record it at the time.
So at the end of a week the UK media has reported as a terrible one for Keir Starmer... By-election results live: 'Very disappointing' admission from party chair as Tories crash to new post-war low with latest defeats The latest reaction and fallout as Labour celebrates victories in the Wellingborough and Kingswood by-elections, overturning big Tory majorities on another difficult night for Rishi Sunak.
One thing worth noting is that the voter turnout was very low - less than 40% in both constituencies. Don't get me wrong, it's still a big win for Labour but not as big as it perhaps appears at first glance. They certainly can't get complacent with a turnout that low (although by-elections do typically have lower turnouts anyway).
Labour still has a lot of work to do, to set out their vision for the country and persuade people they can make a real, positive difference. The Tories are ****ed though. Proper ****ed. And they deserve to be.
The party got wiped out by the Brexit party. It died years ago. It needs to be put down now and replaced with a sensible party.
I wouldn’t be surprised if turnout is way down in the GE, too. I think there’s a huge amount of voter apathy.
The bias in the media is really getting silly and frankly blatant now. I’m pretty sure they are also downplaying the recession as well. Which would be bold front page news if Labour were in charge But hey Labour have “no plan” apparently (pure projection). Because if they have no plans what do the current lot have ? As an aside - I’ve been gaining a greater appreciation as to why there are people who say things like “but it will definitely be worse under Labour”. However this is only an acceptable position for people who were teenagers / young adults in the early 70s or those who have a deep knowledge of that era (my dad being in the former group). I’ve been listening The Rest is History and their in depth series on 1974. And I get it. And i get how Thatcherism swept in and how people whose industries weren’t trashed by her worship her. It clicks into place But when people younger than say 60 say “oh you think it’s bad now, it will definitely be worse under Labour” I have to ask “based on what?”. Things actually worked under our last Labour government
Have there been cases of election year by-elections swinging back massively in the general even with increased turnout ?
Downplaying the recession is kinda fair. All the underlying metrics are positive and retail index for January doubled expectations. So there is real-time growth and by more widely used definitions of the word, we are not in one. That being said, I agree there is media bias, just not around this particular issue.
Extraordinarily brave man. For those unaware: he was poisoned with a nerve agent, evacuated out of Russia, and then knowing he'd assuredly be locked up again -- and probably never see the outside of a prison if we was -- he still returned to Russia. There will come a day where he is treated as one of Russia's great heroes, and Putin as one of its greatest tyrants (and man, that's a tough bar to clear). It's desperately sad that Navalny won't be around to see it.
Could it be that familiar looking guy on the left (of the picture, not politically) ? Third's not bad for him, we finished last when he ran Saints. please log in to view this image
So Starmer is King of the Swingers outdoing Thatcher and Blair. https://www.theguardian.com/politic...-blair-and-thatcher-wellingborough-byelection
I thought it was him, as soon as I saw the name. When you can’t get a proper job, go into politics. No experience necessary.
